HSC examinees have been passing miserable days due to frequent load shedding.

A one-hour human chain demanding uninterrupted electricity and water supply was formed yesterday in front of Shanirakhra Bus Stand by the members of Demra-Shampur Water Power Struggling Committee.

Fatema Afroz, an HSC examinee, said that she could not prepare her lesson well for the exam because of nagging power outage. "This is the most important exam of my life. But load shedding has been creating problems for my full preparation for the exam", she lamented.

Ahsanul Haque who lives at Matuail, said his neighbours and he have been experiencing around 12 hours of outage a day. "One hour on and one hour off", is how he described it.

Shahabuddin Ahmed, a resident of Shanirakhra said, "Load shedding continues till late into the night."

Moslehuddin Masud, Convener of Demra-Shampur Water Power Struggling Committee, called for smooth supply of electricity in the area.

He also demanded repair of damaged road and speed breaker in front of Dania College.

Among others, Farid Hossain, Nahid Ali Imam, Abu Toiba, Parvej Alam, Jony and Rinku addressed the programme.

Countrywide, demand is outstripping supply by about 1000MW a day.

The Power Development Board control room said maximum power generation was determined to be around 3690MW on Wednesday, falling 1194MW short of demand.

A 1215MW shortage was recorded on Tuesday across the country, with maximum output estimated at 3590MW.

The PDB said a 597MW power unit has been out of order, while another 628MW of production shortfall was due to gas scarcity.
