Two more BDR suspects taken on 5-day remand

Two more suspects were placed on a five-day remand yesterday for interrogation in the case filed in connection with the mutiny and carnage on February 25-26 at Peelkhana Headquarters of Bangladesh Rifles.

Earlier, the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case sought a ten-day remand and the General Recording Officer (GRO) Ratan Shaikh moved the case, while the Metropolitan Magistrate Rashed Kabir granted remand against sepoy Sajjad Hossain and his brother-in -law civilian Hafizur Rahman for five days. Twenty-four other BDR Jawans arrested earlier in the case were sent to jail on Saturday. Of them havilder Jalal Uddin gave confessional statement about his involvement in the rebellion that killed 61 Army Officers.

Besides, Magistrate AKM Emdadul Haque placed on remand sepoy Jasim Uddin, Masum Billah, Mizanur Rahman and Rafiqul Islam afresh for four days on Saturday to quiz them in the custody of Criminal Investigation Department (CIP).

IO, ASP Abdul Kahhar Akhand produced 15 suspects before the Court on Saturday after completion of their remand and sought a seven-day remand for four of them to quiz further.

Magistrate Emdadul Haque passed orders to send rest 13 suspects to jail after they were shown arrested in the Mutiny case.

With the latest arrest, a total of 1,029 suspects, mostly BDR members, have so far been arrested in the case; Of them 30 so far gave confessional statements to the Magistrates about their involvement in the rebellion.
