Event: Juneer Kibria’s solo show begins today

A 10-day long solo art exhibition of promising expatriate artist Juneer Kibria will start at the Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts at Dhanmondi in the city today.

Eminent artist Qayyum Chowdhury will inaugurate the show as chief guest at 5:30pm at the Bengal Gallery. Artists Rafiqun Nabi and Monirul Islam will be also present as special guests on the occasion.

Juneer is son of the country's one of the prominent artist Mohammad Kibria.

This was disclosed at a press conference at the Bengal Café in the city yesterday. Expatriate artist Monirul Islam, Director of the Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts Subir Chowdhury, artist Juneer Kibria, among others, were present at the conference.

A total of 98 experimental artworks of Juneer will be on displayed at the show. The show will end on January 14. The gallery will be opened from 12:00 noon to 8:00pm everyday.

Juneer was born in Dhaka in 1980. He completed his graduation in Printmaking in Wittenberg University in the USA. He earlier took part in a solo show and many group exhibitions. At present he is living in the USA as freelance artist.

TV Watch: Style Icon on ATN Bangla tonight

Beauty contest 'Style Icon' will be aired on ATN Bangla at 8:45pm tonight. Primary selection round of the beauty contest started from November 25, 2008 where 16 judges selected 200 contestants from more than 20,000 applicants. Of the 200, 26 were selected for the grooming session, which was conducted at the Fantasy Kingdom theme park.

Film director Chashi Nazrul Islam, beauty expert Kaniz Almas, fashion designer Shahrukh Shahid and artiste Fahmida Nabi among others were the judges of this session.

Twenty contestants were selected from this round who are now going through another grooming round in Chittagong. This session includes physical exercise, choreography, ramp, beautification, basic walk, regular lecture, discussion, lifestyle training and more. Five competitors will be eliminated from here and the top ten will be selected from the rest. These 10 contestants will then participate in the 'Gala Round.'

Event: Artist Kibria’s birthday celebrated

Artist Mohammad Kibria's 80th birth anniversary was on January 1. To celebrate the day of the country's one of the prominent artists Kibria, Bengal Foundation organised a programme at Bengal Shilpalaya in Dhanmondi in the city on Friday.

Noted personalities including educationists, litterateurs and artists were present at the function and celebrated the day with reminiscences of the artworks of the noted artist. Architect Abdus Salam, artists Qayyum Chowdhury, Mostafa Monwar, Farida Zaman, Nurul Islam, Monirul Islam, Abu Taher, Gulshan Hossain, Hashem Khan, Rafiqun Nabi, Biren Shom, Rezaul Karim, Kalidas Karmakar, Enamul Haque, Sayeeda Kamal Tulu, Ranojit Das, Khalid Mahmood Mithu and Abul Bark Alvi, actor Keramat Mowla, among others, were present at the function and wished the artist long life. Besides, politicians Abul Maal Abdul Muhit and Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, former chairman of the Privatisation Commission Enam Ahmed Chowdhury, human rights activist Kushi Kabir and Chairman of Bengal Foundation Abul Khayer Litu were also present on the occasion.

Mohammad Kibria was born on January 1, 1929 in Birbhum of the West Bengal in India. He graduated from Kolkata Government Art Institute in 1950 and later pursued higher studies in fine arts in Japan. He is a recipient of 'Ekushey Padak,' 'Swadhinata Padak,' and many other awards from home and abroad. Dhaka University selected him as a professor emeritus last year.

Story of Swapnochura:

The story of the drama is based on lifestyles of some members of the middle and higher-class families. Housewife Aporna is the central character of the drama. She maintains her family with her various tricks. But she is a successful member in her house. Shayan is a beautiful girl in a middle class family. She is now passing her days after breaking her relationship with Bobby. She has established a new relationship with Arefin, brother-in-law of Bobby, to take revenge against Bobby. But Bobby became anger in this regard and decided to face the matter. Story of the drama serial continues.

She is very excited and nervous about the film. Mona She played the central role of Jassi in the popular television serial Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin. In 2006, she was the winner of the show Jhalak Dhikla Jaa on Sony Entertainment Television. At that time she had announced to make movies sometime in the future.
