Police arrested an absconding convict and notorious thief bearing five warrants of arrests from village Jharbishla under Pirganj upazila here in the small hours on Wednesday, police said.

Acting on secret information, a special police team from Pirganj Thana conducted a sudden raid and arrested the thief from his house in the village.

He was identified as Golzar Hossain, 45, of the village and five warrants of arrests of the years 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2003 are pending against him and he was also sentenced to one month imprisonment in a theft case.

The arrested criminal was sent to jail hajat when police produced him before a Rangpur court on Wednesday, the sources said.
