News briefs Teenage girl beaten to death in Madaripur MADARIPUR, Dec 10: A teenage girl, who was beaten allegedly by a close relative at Shambuk village in Shibchar upazila last night, died at the upazila hospital on Wednesday. The victim was identified as Shahnaj,14, daughter of Jahangir Bepari of the same village. Police said Shahnaj was injured seriously when her uncle Isahaq Bepari and his accomplices beat her savagely last night following the theft of a mobile phone set, owned by Isahaq Bepari, reports BSS. Woman strangulated in Chittagong CHITTAGONG, Dec 10: A woman was strangulated allegedly by her husband at Burumchara village under Anowara upazila in the district on Wednesday night. The victim was Khurshida Begum, 30, wife of Nasir of Burumchara village of the upazila, district police sources said. Khurshida's father Ohidur Rahman of the same village today lodged a case with Anowara police accusing Nasir and some of his accomplices of killing Khurshida in a planned way. In the case petition, Ohidur Rahman alleged that Nasir used to torture Khurshida frequently as she did not give Nasir permission for second marriage, reports BSS. RAB nabs wanted criminal in Joypurhat RAJSHAHI, Dec 10: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) rounded up a wanted criminal at a place in Joypurhat district yesterday, RAB sources here said on Wednesday. On a tip-off, a team of the elite force raided Kalai Bazar area under Kalai upazila of the district and arrested Anisur Rahman Talukder, 46, son of Abdul Haque. Anisur accused in a number of criminal cases has been absconding for the last couple of years, the RAB sources said adding that he was handed over to the concerned police station after recording a case in this connection, reports BSS. Woman killed in Jessore road crash JESSORE, Dec 10: A woman was killed and her husband injured seriously in a road accident at Rupdia under Jessore Sadar upazila on Wednesday afternoon. Police said Azizur Rahman, 35, of Hatbila village under the same upazila and his wife Nazma Begum, 25, were coming to Jessore town on a motorcycle. When their motorbike reached Rupdia area, a Jessore-bound bus of Garai Paribahan crushed them, killing Nazma Begum on the spot and wounding Azizur seriously. Azizur was admitted to Jessore 250-bed Hospital and his condition is stated to be critical, hospital sources said, reports BSS.
