Eid-ul-Azha celebrated with much enthusiasm, religious fervour in dists

The holy Eid-ul-Azha, one of the greatest religious festival of the Muslims, was celebrated here on Tuesday with religious fevour, gaiety and solemnity. The main Eid congregation was held at central Eidgah, adjacent to local stadium of the town, under the auspices of the district administration.
Deputy Commissioner Abu Muhammad Yousuf, officials, leaders of political parties, elite of the town, professionals and journalists joined the congregation.
The other Eid congregations were also held at Gaibandha police lines, Gausul Azam Eidgah, Al-Falah same Mosque, PWD Jame Mosque, Fakirpara Jame Mosque, Khanka Sharif Jame Mosque, DC-court Jame Mosque, Circuit House Madrasha Mosque, Dhanghara Eidgah, Palash Para Jame Mosque, Moderw Eidgah, David Company para Jame Mosque, V-AID Road Jame Mosque, Gorosthan Jame Mosque and station Jame Mosque of the town. Thousands of Muslims offered special munajats seeking divine blessing and eternal peace of the departed souls for peace, progress and prosperity of the country.
National flag was hoisted a top all government and private buildings and the main roads were decorated with festoons and flags, Gaibandha Pourasabha also made the different gates inscribed with 'Eid Mubarak' and 'Allahu Akbar' at the entrance point of the town.
Special and improved diets were served among the inmates of different hospitals, joints, Shishu paribars, prisoners and orphans on the holy occasion.
The police administration took adequate steps and the members of police, RAB, Ansar-VDP volunteers were deployed indifferent places of the town, police super SM Moniruzzaman said.
BSS, Joypurhat adds: The greatest religious festival of the Muslims, Eid-ul-Azha, was celebrated in the district with huge enthusiasms, religious fervour, gaiety and solemnity and in a befitting manner on Tuesday.
The biggest Eid congregation was held at Joypurhat collectorate and centrat Eidgah Maidan where senior officials, leaders of political parties, elite of the district, professionals and journalists performed heir Eid prayers.
The police administrations took adequate steps and members of RAB, volunteers and other law enforcers were deployed every where for Aram-quility and peaceful celebrations of the festivity. The other huge Eid congregations in Joypurhat were held at Joypurhat Sugar Mills Jame Mosque, police line ground, Kashiabari Eidgha Maidan, Bulupara Eidgah Maidan, Joypurhat Government College ground, and Bigger Eid Jamaats were also held in all five upazilas held quarters of the district.
National flag were hoisted atop all government and private buildings and decorated with colourful lighting and flags, banners bearing Islamic inscriptions.
Forgery behind cancellation of nominations of independent candidates in Khulna

Forgery was main reason behind cancellation of most of the nominations of independent candidates in Khulna, sources in the local Election Commission (EC) said.
EC sources said the independent candidates required to submit proof of support of one percent voters of his constituency in line with the election rules with the nomination papers, but the EC found that the independent candidates submitted false documents of support when it went on a sample test in the constituency. The sources said most of the candidates had submitted false signature and thumb impression of the voters.
At the time of enquiry, the voters said he is illiterate and do not know how to sign his name, but on the documents submitted by independent candidates carried signature of the voter.
Some of the voters said they have some education so there is no reason to put thumb impression, but the candidates put themselves the thumb impression.
The independent candidates, whose nominations were cancelled include Shaikh Monirul Islam, son of former Awami League (AL) lawmaker Shaikh Nurul Haque of Khulna-6, Mrs. Laila Rahman, wife of former mayor Shaikh Tayebur Rahman of Khulna-2, Asaduzzaman Jalal of Khulna- 1, Mallick Hamiduzzaman of Khulana-4 and Shabakash Chandra Mondol of Khulna-5.
RO conducts enquiry against Rajshahi candidate for alleged violation of code

An enquiry was conducted by Assistant Returning Officer of Rajshahi on allegation of violating election code of conduct by grand alliance candidate Engineer Enamul Huq of Rajshahi-4 (Bagmara) constituency in presence of additional district magistrate, the complainant, the candidate and the local people.
According to the complainant, Huq recently visited his village Sankoa and opened a medical centre and promised that if elected he will establish a private medical college in the village.
Moreover, the complainant said huq donated money to different organisations ahead of the parliamentary election.
Some people, including Zahurul Islam, Abdul Khaleque Tota and others lodged the complaint with the Election Commission (EC) and the Chief Election Commission (CEC) asked the Deputy Commissioner to investigate the matter. The complainant told newsmen that they raised the allegations before the enquiry committee while the candidate Huq refuted the allegation.
Death anniversary of Kabial Bijoy Sarker observed

The 23rd death anniversary of Kabial Bijoy Sarker was observed on December 3 at Tabra Nabakrishna Madhamik Bidhalaya under Narail Sadar Upazila.
Differene programmes were taken to observe the death anniversary, including discussion meeting and painting exhibition. The programme began with placing of wreath on the mazar of the Kabial. The painting competition was inaugurated by Pro. Nikhil Kumar Roy, Principal of Khulna Teachers Training College. An essay competition was also arranged on the occasion.
A discussion meeting on the life and activities of the Kabial was held in the afternoon.
The discussion was presided over by Rafiqul Islam, while Prof. Ashok Kumar Shil addressed the meeting, among others.
Jr scholarship exam held in Baraigram

Two-day-long junior scholarship examination-'08 was held at Bonpara Saint Joseph's High School centre peacefully on December 3 and 4.
Of the total 718 students, 649 students were present and 69 were absent in the examination hall. Natore District Education Officer Ibrahim Khalilullah and Baraigram Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Pronob Kumar Roy visited the examination hall. They were pleased to see the peaceful atmosphere of the examination centre.
Winter clothes distributed among poor

Kazi Abdul Hoq Memorial Kalyan Foundation, a social organisation, has distributed about 400 warm clothes among the poor destitute children recently at its own office premises.
Children from different parts of the district attended. Pant, shirt, sweater, etc were distributed among 400 poor children. The organisation has collected old clothes from the houses of the locality.
On this occasion, a meeting was held where Advocate Samaresh Ray Choudhury was the chief guest and chairperson of the organisation Mrs. Hemuka Pervin presided the function.
Dr. Tasuquzzaman, Dr. Mukul Krishna Biswas, among others, were present on the occasion.
Local journalists and people also took part in the distribution.
Workshop on translucent ballot box held in Gaibandha

A workshop on Translucent Ballot Box (TBB) to be used in upcoming ninth Parliamentary and 3rd Upazila parishad election was held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner (DCC) here on December 5 with. DC Abu Muhammad Yousuf in the chair.
District Administration organised it under Public Information Camping programme proposed by UNDP and approved by Election Commission Secretariat, sources said.
The specific paper on the issue was read out by District Election Officer Syed Ali Imam who also narrated and showed the techniques of using the TBB to the participants elaborately.
The DC in his speech said this TBB would play an important and assertive role to ensure the transparency and acceptability of the electioning process The introduction of TBB would be considered as one of the epoch-making discussion and steps of Bangladesh Election Commission in future, he also said.
More than 50 district level officers, leaders of different professional groups and the journalists attended the workshop.
Four-party alliance candidate makes mass contact at Tarabo Pourasava

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) led four-party alliance candidate from Rupganj Upazila Kazi Monir made a mass contact at Tarabo Pourasaba area on December 5 with participation of many leaders and activists of the combine.
After the mass contact, a views exchange meeting was held at Barpa Baganbari area with Nasiruddin Ahmed, leading industrialist of the area and Upazila BNP leader, in the chair.
At the meeting some local people put forward some of their demands, including the problem of gas supply.
Kazi Monir addressing the meeting promised if elected he would take steps to resolve the problems.
He also said he would also try to eradicate all anomalies from everywhere. He urged the voters to vote for him.

Teenage girl beaten to death in Madaripur
MADARIPUR, Dec 10: A teenage girl, who was beaten allegedly by a close relative at Shambuk village in Shibchar upazila last night, died at the upazila hospital on Wednesday. The victim was identified as Shahnaj,14, daughter of Jahangir Bepari of the same village. Police said Shahnaj was injured seriously when her uncle Isahaq Bepari and his accomplices beat her savagely last night following the theft of a mobile phone set, owned by Isahaq Bepari, reports BSS.
Woman strangulated in Chittagong
CHITTAGONG, Dec 10: A woman was strangulated allegedly by her husband at Burumchara village under Anowara upazila in the district on Wednesday night. The victim was Khurshida Begum, 30, wife of Nasir of Burumchara village of the upazila, district police sources said. Khurshida's father Ohidur Rahman of the same village today lodged a case with Anowara police accusing Nasir and some of his accomplices of killing Khurshida in a planned way. In the case petition, Ohidur Rahman alleged that Nasir used to torture Khurshida frequently as she did not give Nasir permission for second marriage, reports BSS.

RAJSHAHI, Dec 10: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) rounded up a wanted criminal at a place in Joypurhat district yesterday, RAB sources here said on Wednesday. On a tip-off, a team of the elite force raided Kalai Bazar area under Kalai upazila of the district and arrested Anisur Rahman Talukder, 46, son of Abdul Haque. Anisur accused in a number of criminal cases has been absconding for the last couple of years, the RAB sources said adding that he was handed over to the concerned police station after recording a case in this connection, reports BSS.
Woman killed in Jessore road crash
JESSORE, Dec 10: A woman was killed and her husband injured seriously in a road accident at Rupdia under Jessore Sadar upazila on Wednesday afternoon. Police said Azizur Rahman, 35, of Hatbila village under the same upazila and his wife Nazma Begum, 25, were coming to Jessore town on a motorcycle. When their motorbike reached Rupdia area, a Jessore-bound bus of Garai Paribahan crushed them, killing Nazma Begum on the spot and wounding Azizur seriously. Azizur was admitted to Jessore 250-bed Hospital and his condition is stated to be critical, hospital sources said, reports BSS.
