PSTU employees return to work on assurance

Our Correspondent, Barisal

The employees of Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU), who went on an indefinite strike on November 17, returned to work on Monday on assurance from the University Authorities to meet their 9-point demand.

The demands of the staff, appointed on temporary basis, included regularisation of their job, but the issue is under the University Grants Commission. During their work stoppage, the employees staged sit-in, brought out processions, held protest meetings and laid siege before the administrative building and stopped water and power supply and movement of university transport.

Prof. Harun-or-Rashid, Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University admitting the incident said the authorities are willing to meet their demands, which are within their authority. He said he had informed the UGC about the situation on the campus following the work stoppage by the staff.
