150 talented HSC students feted

Greater Comilla Cultural Forum (GCCF) yesterday accorded reception to 150 HSC-passed talented students of Chandpur, Comilla and Brahmanbaria districts.

It also accorded reception to 12 renowned personalities of these districts in recognition to their outstanding contributions in their respective fields.

The reception was given at a function at the Institute of Diploma Engineers in the city.

Adviser for Communications, Public Works and Housing Maj Gen (Retd) Ghulam Quader, chief guest of the function, handed over the awards to the recipients.

Cabinet Secretary M Abdul Aziz, President's Secretary Md Serajul Islam, Secretary of the Chief Advisor's Office Kazi Md Aminul Islam, President of National Press Club Shawkat Mahammud, Editor of Daily Inqilab AMM Bahauddin and president of GCCF Md Mahbubur Rahman Khokon attended the function as special guests.

The function was followed by a colourful cultural programme.

Khaleda condoles death of teacher leader

BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia yesterday expressed condolence over the death of elderly teacher leader Shariful Islam.

In a message of condolence she recalled late Shariful's contribution in the expansion of education and welfare of the teacher's community.

She conveyed her sympathies to the bereaved family members and prayed for the salvation of the departed soul.

Khandker Delwar Hossain, Secretary General of the party has also expressed condolences over the death of Shariful.

Row over nomination Protesters damage AL office

UNB, Narayanganj



Supporters of Awami League leader SM Akram Yesterday damaged the district Awami League office, demanding nomination for him to contest the Narayanganj-5 constituency in parliamentary election.

Jatiya Party presidium member Nasim Osman was nominated to contest the constituency as a grand alliance candidate, which angered the supporters of AL leader Akram.

During the attack, the angry activists damaged chairs, showcase and almirah of party office at No. 2 rail gate in the town at about 3:15pm.

The attackers, BCL activists of Government Tolaram University College and Narayanganj College, fled away before the arrival of police who rushed to the spot receiving information.

AL nomination seeker Akram was not available for comment about the incident.
