ICC suspends spinner Razzak
AP, Dhaka
The International Cricket Council has suspended Bangladesh left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak for an illegal bowling action, pending a fresh assessment.
Razzak's suspension followed an independent analysis in Australia that confirmed his bowling action was suspect under current ICC regulations, the sport's world governing body said Monday.
The bowling review was ordered after he was reported by umpires Daryl Harper and Asoka de Silva for a suspect action at the end of Bangladesh's home series against New Zealand in October.
Razzak, who is now barred from playing international cricket, has the right to appeal. If his petition fails, he can ask for a reassessment after modifying his action.
There were no immediate comment from Razzak or the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
Razzak had to leave in the middle of a tour of South Africa last month to travel to Australia to be assessed by Marc Portus, a member of the ICC panel of human movement specialists at the Australian Institute of Sports.
Portus' analysis showed Razzak bent his arm more than the 15 degrees allowed by the ICC for a faster delivery.
He was reported for the same offense in 2004, during an Asia Cup match against Pakistan in Colombo.
Razzak, 26, has taken seven wickets in five test matches and claimed 111 wickets in 81 one-day internationals since his 2004 debut.
Razzak suspension a big loss: chief selector
bdnews, Dhaka
Chief selector Rafiqul Alam on Monday termed the ICC suspension on left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak a big blow for Bangladesh, ahead of the home series against Sri Lanka in December-January.
"It is certainly a big loss for Bangladesh in both versions of the game as the team has been going through a transitional period since the players' exodus to the Indian cricket league," Alam told bdnews24.com.
The 26-year old spinner has been suspended from international cricket for illegal bowling action and will remain out of cricket until he is corrected.
"He (Razzak) was a very important player on the side, especially on home ground," said Alam and added, "We are hopeful about finding a solution to this current crisis soon."
Razzak has taken seven wickets in five test matches and claimed 110 victims in 79 one-day internationals.
The Bangladesh cricket team is scheduled to return home on Tuesday evening from South Africa, where they lost both the one-day internationals and the Tests series.
Coach Jamie Siddons is not coming with the team as he had already left South Africa for Australia.

The Indian cricket board has altered England's tour itinerary and dropped the lone warmup game.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India says the opening test match will now be played from Dec. 11-15 in the southern city of Chennai. The northern Indian city of Mohali will stage the second test from Dec. 19-23.
Chennai was chosen as the alternative venue in place of Mumbai, where last week's terrorist attacks killed at least 172 people. On Monday, the Indian board also changed the venue of other test match from Ahmadabad, which was earlier supposed to host the opening test.
