Cancer Awareness programme

It has been revealed in a recently held awareness building program about lung cancer jointly organised by Sanofi-aventis and Raowa that 30,000 people die of lung cancer in Bangladesh while 40,000 more people fall victim to the disease a year due to lack of awareness about the harmful effects of smoking. The speakers at the programme said that the main cause of lung cancer is smoking (87%) while the probability of being infected by lung cancer is 23 times higher for a smoker than a non-smoker!

So, the smokers must intensify their efforts to stop smoking forever!

Behave well with children

Professor S M A Faiz, Vice Chancellor, Dhaka University while inaugurating a two-day 'Teaching seminar on child rights' recently urged all to come forward to protect the basic rights of children, which include right to education. Terming children as the future of the country, Prof. Faiz emphasised the need for resolving the problems being faced by them.

While fully endorsing the above observations and suggestions made by the learned VC of Dhaka University, I would like to pin-point a fact that the children also reserve the right to enjoy a fair treatment from their elders, be it our society lords, VIPs, or their school teachers. Often I have noticed that some important people behave very roughly with children. This should not be a practice!
