2 female garment workers killed in Ctg road mishap

CHITTAGONG, Nov 26: Two female garment workers were killed and three others injured in a tragic road accident at Gosaildanga crossing near Chittagong port Wednesday. Local people said a port bound truck hit the two rickshaws carrying four garment workers on way to their workplace, killing Rekha Alam, 22, and Nilufar Akhter, 28, on the spot at about 8am. No other details about the deceased were available immediately. Two other garments workers traveling on same rickshaws and a rickshaw puller were injured in the accident. They were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, reports UNB.

Mattress factory catches fire in Noakhali

NOAKHALI, Nov 26: Valuables of a mattress factory were gutted in a fire at Anantapur in Begumganj upazila Monday. Local fire fighters said the fire originated from an electric short circuit when the works at Upasham Mattress Factory were going on at noon. Mattress making four machines and raw materials were gutted in the fire. On information, two fire fighting units from Maijdee rushed to the spot and doused the flame with the help of local people, reports UNB.

Cop killed in Comilla road mishap

COMILLA, Nov 26: A police constable was killed in a road accident in gas field area of Devidwar upazila on early Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Anisur Rahman, 40, of Madaripur district. Police said the accident took place on Comilla-Brahmanbaria road at about 1:30am as a speeding truck ran Anisur Rahman over, leaving him critically injured. He was on highway patrol duty. He succumbed to his injuries on way to local hospital, reports UNB.

JP man killed in Sirajganj road mishap

SIRAJGANJ, Nov 26: A local young Jatiya Party leader was killed in a road accident near Hatikomrul bridge on Dhaka-Bogra highway in Rayganj upazila on Monday. The deceased was identified as Ruhul Amin Isha, 24, son of Abdus Samad of Raghurgati village in Sadar upazila. Police said, Isha died on the spot at noon as a speeding bus rammed into his motorbike. Isha was on his way to take part in a rally organized to welcome JP Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad on his return to Dhaka from Rangpur through the district. Police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed, reports UNB.

2 bandits held with looted goods in Comilla

Comilla, Nov 26: Police arrested two dacoits when they were fleeing with the booty after committing robbery at a bus on Dhaka-Chittagong highway near Cheora area in Sadar South upazila early Tuesday. The arrested were identified as Anwar Hossain, of Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj and Delwar Hossain of Comilla district. Police said a gang of robbers in the guise of passengers, boarded the capital bound bus from Chittagong. When the bus reached in front of the Cheora Vita-world hotel in Chowddagram upazila at about 3:00 am the bandits started plundering the valuables of the passengers, reports UNB.
