National Agricultural Day

Declaration of Pahela Agrahayan as the 'National Agriculture Day' by the government has sparked pulsation to the community life of our farming people. Farmers throughout the country have celebrated the Day with great enthusiasm and jubilation. The government deserves appreciation for declaring the National Agriculture Day by recognizing the men behind the plough who are actually the prime driving force of our economy.

Meanwhile, I think, the National Agriculture Day could have more impact on our farming community if the word 'Farmer' be incorporated in it, that is, 'National Agriculture & Farmers Day', in Bangla, "Jatyo Krishi O Krishok Dibosh".

Too many Commissions!

We are more or less aware of the works and functions and number of our various ministries, Govt. Departments and offices, public sector corporations and some Commissions like Election Commission, Anti-Corruption Commission, Tariff Commission, University Grants Commission, Pay Commission, etc. We are however, totally ignorant about works, functions and powers of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission, Regulatory Reform Commission and such other Commission, if any. We also fail to understand how the Chairman and the officials of those commissions are appointed. What are the terms, condition and period of appointment in the Commission. Are they paid from the public exchequer? Are they government servants? We wonder how the Chairman of the Regulatory Commission Dr. Akbar Ali makes political statements from time to time?

Would our authorities concerned, especially the Cabinet Affairs Division and Establishment Division, kindly clarify the matter because of our right to information in the public interest?
