Concern over non-navigability of rivers

Staff Reporter

Speakers said at a discussion yesterday that 30 per cent of the total passengers and commodities transported in the country use the waterways.

They said now-a-days our waterways have been losing navigability due to negligence of the relevant department.

MN Creation organised the discussion on River and River-ways at the National Press Club in the city.

Addressing as chief guest former Secretary of BTRC Sayed Margub Morshed said our business and industrial sectors have been established on the banks of the rivers. We should take proper steps to recover these waterways by dredging the rivers from time to time.

In this programme MN Creation launched their fortnightly magazine Nadir Kotha (Of Rivers). They also screened a documentary film on the River.

Md Shahab Uddin Milon Editor of the magazine presided over the function. He also delivered the welcome speech.
