Prevention of liver disease stressed

Speakers at a symposium yesterday emphasized on the prevention of liver diseases as the most effective strategy.

Association of the Study of the Liver organised the 8th international symposium on "Liver Disease-2008" at Hotel Sonargaon in the city with Prof Mobin Khan, president of the association, in the chair while national Prof Nurul Islam attended as the chief guest and Prof Dr Nazrul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of BSMMU, as special guest.

Liver disease is one of the acute health problems in our country and most of the liver diseases could be prevented through personal cleanliness and healthy sanitation, the speakers said in the meeting.

They expressed the hope that Bangladesh would be able to acquire the capability of replacing liver, like other developed countries, within a short time.

Around 1,000 liver experts including 10 foreign experts attended the function.
