Objections to poll observers: EC hearing Nov 23-24

The Election Commission will hold hearings for some 25 domestic organizations of election observers on Novembe r 23 and 24 (Sunday-Monday) as some political parties have raised question about their neutrality.

Chief Election Commissioner Dr ATM Shamsul Huda and commissioners Brig Gen (retd) M Sakhawat Hussain and M Sohul Hussain would be present at the hearings to be held at the EC secretariat conference room.

Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) earlier placed their objections with the commission about the polls observer organizations.

Nov 23 hearings from 10am-5pm for following organizations:

BCDJC, Democracy Watch, FEMA, Jagaroni Chakra, Khan Foundation, Light House, Noakhali Rural Development Society, Shariatpur Development Society, Srijoni Bangladesh, Bangladedsh Manabadhikar (Human Rights) Commission, Brave and Association of Muslim Welfare Agency in Bangladesh.

Nov 24 hearings for 10am-5pm for following organizations:

Hilful Fuzul Samaj Kalyan Sangstha, National Youth Forum Bangladesh, Jugayan Samajik Unnayan Sangstha, Unity of Social Advantage, Coast Trust, Development Organization for

the Poor, Nari Udyog Kendra and ANFREL, Broti, Bangladesh Manabadhikar Samannay Parishad, Solidarity (Kurigram) and Abad Pukur Palli Samaj Unnayan Sangstha (Naogaon)

Of the 319 organizations who applied for registration as election observers, the Election Commission primarily listed 138 organizations after scrutiny and invited objections against them, if any, to reach the commission by Nov 16, EC sources said.
