News Briefs One killed in Gopalganj road mishap GOPALGANJ, Nov 8: A police constable was killed and five others, including an assistant sub-inspector, were injured when a police van plunged into a roadside ditch at Chandardigholia in Sadar upazila early Saturday. The deceased was identified as constable Manwar, 35, of Gopinathpur Investigation Centre (IC) under Sadar Thana. Police said while patrolling the area the van ran off the road into the nearby ditch at about 5am. On information, local fire brigade rushed to the spot and rescued ASI Habibur Rahman, 45, and constables Abu Sayed, 40, Abdul Barek, 43, Uttam Kumar, 35, and driver Alamgir, 35. They were admitted to the Sadar Hospital. A case was filed, reports UNB. Valuables looted in N'ganj NARAYANGANJ, Nov 8: Robbers injured two inmates and looted Tk 1.50 lakh in cash, four mobile phone sets and six tolas of gold ornaments raiding a flat at Muktinagar Ati in Siddhirganj thana early Friday. Local sources said 15/20 robbers entered into the flat of Atafullah Master identifying them as officials of administration at 3am. Later, they took the inmates hostage at gun point and looted the cash and valuables. The bandits at one stage hit two inmates, Lipi and Jalal, with knife as they tried to resist them, leaving them critically injured. Of them, Jalal was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital while Lipi admitted to a local clinic. A case was filed, reports UNB.
