Erosion takes serious turn in Fulchari Our Correspondent, Gaibandha Erosion by the river Brahmaputra has taken a serious turn at Ratanpur and Singria villages under Fulchari Upazila in the district recently. Vast tracts of cropland and the homesteads of the villagers have been devoured by the erosion of the river causing at least 30 families of the villagers to become homeless, sources said. The affected families have taken shelter on the nearby embankment and other safer places and are passing their days in great distress. On the other hand, the existence of a good number of establishments including primary and high schools, Madrasha and health clinic located in the are a are under threat of the erosion. The affected and the threatened people of the areas urged the concerned authorities to take necessary steps to check the erosion. Many letters signed by the inhabitants of the areas were sent to the Chief Adviser and the Ministry of Water Resources to draw their attention on the issue in last months of this year, said Dr. Abdur Rashid Siddique, an inhabitant of Ratanpur village of the upazila.
