The New Nation, Daily Star, Independent, Somokal, Amader Aurthonity in qtrs

The New Nation moved into the quarter-finals of the Pepsi-DRU Inter-House Cricket Tournament when they defeated Banglabazar Patrika by 11 runs in their second round match at the Moulana Bhasani Natinal Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.

Coin-favoured New Nation batted first and made 54 for the loss of one wicket in six overs and then they restricted Banglabazar Patrika to 43 for the loss of three wickets off six overs.

Sheikh Arif Bulbon was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-round performance. Bulbon hit 33 off 16 balls amid two sixes and four fours. He took one wicket for seven runs.

The New Nation will face Channel i in the quarter-final at 10.30 AM at the same venue.

Daily Star, Independent, Somokal, Amader Aurthonity also reached the quarter-finals on the same day.

Earlier, Channel i, Bangla Vision, Bhorer Kagoj confirmed their quarter-finals berth.

Daily Star (72/4) beat the Daily Ittefaq (60/1) by 12 runs. AK Azad of Daily Star earned the prize of the Man of the Match.

Independent (58/1) outclassed Destiny (56/1) by four wickets. Mir Modtafizur Rahman gained the prize of the Man of the Match.

Somokal (26/2) overwhelmed Amar Desh (25/5) by three wickets. Ashraf Zaman Uzzal of Somokal was awarded the prize of the Man of the Match.

Amader Aurthonity(23/0 ) eliminated Jonopod (17/5) by five wickets. Hasan Shiplu of Amader Aurthonity was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Vice-President of BOA and General Secretary of Bangladesh Hockey Federation Khondker Jamil Uddin , General Secretary of Bangladesh Archery Federation and CEO of The Blazer BD Kazi Rajibuddin Ahmed Chapal distributed the prizes among the winners.

BCB election to be held today

The election of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will be held today at the conference room of National Sports Council. The casting of vote will starts today from 10.00 AM to 3.00 PM.

The poll of BCB will be held in three categories. A total of 168 councillors will elect the Directors of BCB by casting their votes.

In Category One, 70 councillors from different districts and divisions will cast their vote to elect 10 Directors.

In Category Two, 52 councillors of Dhaka Metropolis will elect 12 Directors.

In Category Three 47 councillors of different associations, organisetions and educational institutions will cast their votes to elect one Director.

In Category Two, 12 candidates will take part in the election under the banner of Cricket Development Council. They will participate in the election for 12 Director's post.

The candidates are : Mahbubul Anam, Aziz Al Kaisar Tito, Md Aminul Haque Moni, ASM Faruque, Ahmod Iqbal Hasan, Mirza Salman Ispahani, Mizanur Rahman, Mohammad Lutfor Rahman, Syed Farhad Ahmed, Obaed AR Nizam, Md Ziaur Rahman Tapu and Iftekhar Rahman Mithu.

On the other hand, 12 candidates will compete for the 12 Director's post of Category Two under the banner of United Council. They are : Gazi Golam Dostogir Bir Protik, Md Enaet Hossain Siraj, Shafiqur Rahman Munna, Mohammad Jalal Younus, Golam Saeed Hasan Chowdhury (Tamim), Ahmed Sazzadul Alam Boby, GM Shamim Hussain, Md Ali Ahsan (Babu ), Mohammad Hossain Molla, Nazrul Islam Babul Kazi Aziz Ahmed Taimur and Md Selim.

Bangladesh force Myanmar to goalless draw in opener

UNB, Dhaka



Bangladesh held strong Myanmar to a goalless draw in their opening Group A match in the six-team 3rd Grand Royal Challenge Cup that began on Tuesday at the Yangon National Stadium.

Bangladesh got couple of scoring chances during the match, but failed to convert those into goal. Custodian Aminul Haque showed brilliant performance under the bar, while Zahid Hossain played good football all through the match, according to a message received here this evening.

In the tournament, Bangladesh has been placed in group A with strong Indonesia and hosts Myanmar, while group B comprises Vietnam, Malaysia and Hyundai FC.

Bangladesh will play the 2nd group match against Indonesia on Thursday at the same venue.

Mohammedan CA register 8-wicket win over Lutfar Rahman KS

UNB, Dhaka



Mohammedan Cricket Academy registered an eight-wicket win over Lutfar Rahman Krira Sangsad in a super league match of the 3rd Division qualifying cricket League at the Gulshan Youth Club ground on Tuesday.

Batting first after winning the toss, Lutfar Rahman KS were all out for 112 in 32 overs with Hasib scoring 31 runs. Milon claimed three wickets for 15 runs.

In reply, Mohammedan Cricket Academy reached the target of 113 runs in 21.3 overs for the loss of two wickets with Jony contributing unbeaten 51 runs. Al-Amin took one wicket for 17 runs.

Results of the day's other matches: Rear Cricket Club (206/7) beat Pallabi Imperial (112/10) by 94 runs at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium, BKSP (Green) (217/7) defeated Mirpur Dream Boys (154/10) by 63 runs at the Dhaka University ground and Winning Run (216/9) outplayed Heritage Cricketers (200/10) by 16 runs at the City Club ground.

Rajshahi take 161-run first innings lead against Khulna

League leaders Rajshahi Division take 161 runs first innings lead against hosts Khulna Division on the 3rd day of the four-day fifth round match of the Ispahani Mirzapore Tea 10th National Cricket League at Khulna Divisional Stadium on Tuesday.

Olympic Day Run on Friday

UNB, Dhaka



The Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) will organise Olympic Day Run on Friday (November 14).

In a bid to popularize its movement across the country, the BOA, for the first time, has decided to hold the programme at district and divisional level simultaneously.

The programmes of the day includes, blood donation, children's art competition and cultural activities.

The Run will begin from Ramna Tennis Complex here at about 7:30 am on the day and end at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.

Participation in the Olympic Day Run will remain open for all the sport loving people, said a PID release on Tuesday.

Bangladesh concedes defeat to India in Junior Tennis

Two Bangladeshi players -- U Shew Shew and Mofazzal Hossain -- conceded defeat to their Indian counterparts in the 1st Junior South Asian Tennis Championship at the Ramna National Tennis Court complex here Tuesday.

In the day's matches, U Shew Shew (Bangladesh) conceded defeat to Shahbaaz Kahn (India) 6-1, 6-1 while Mofazzal Hossain (Bangladesh) lost to SV Abhishek 6-2, 6-0.

Uttar Baridhara Club wins 1-0 against Matuail Udayan Sangsad

UNB, Dhaka



Uttar Baridhara Club scraped to a 1-0 victory against Matuail Udayan Sangsad in a match of the Metropolis 2nd Division Football League at the Bir Shreshtha Sepoy Mohammad Mostafa Stadium at Kamalapur on Tuesday.

Rezaul Karim Khokon scored the all-important goal for Baridhara Club in the 74th minute.

Baridhara Club so far earned 27 points from 11 matches while Udayan Sangsad remained at 17 points playing 12 matches.

In the day's other match, Kawran Bazar Pragoti Sangha beat Friends Social Welfare Organization, also 1-0, at the same venue in the afternoon.

Ahad Hossain Sanjit scored the match-winner for Pragoti Sangha in the 57th minute.

With the day's outcome, Pragoti Sangha secured 26 points while Friend Social Welfare Organization remained at 18 points, both playing 12 matches.

Barnak Samaj beat Bachelors Club 1-0

UNB, Dhaka



Barnak Samaj defeated Bachelors Club by a solitary goal in the only match of the Green Delta Metropolis First Division Hockey League at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.
