National Swimming Competition begins tomorrow

UNB, Dhaka

The 23rd Mercantile Bank National Swimming Competition, organized by Bangladesh Swimming Federation, will be held on November 12-15 at the Mirpur National Swimming Complex in the city.

District and divisional sports associations, Services teams, educational institutions and other organisations will take part in the 4-day meet, sponsored by Mercantile Bank Ltd.

A total of 348 swimmers -- 271 men and 77 women - representing 29 teams will take part in 38 events -- 19 for men and 19 for women.

Of the estimated budget of Tk 1.1 million (11 lakh), sponsor Mercantile Bank will provide Tk 1.0 million (10 lakh) to run the competition.

The best swimmer from men's and women's groups will receive Tk 20,000 each as cash prize, while the emerging swimmer from men's and women's groups will get Tk 10,000 each.

Swimming Federation general secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shaheen disclosed the details at a press conference at the National Sports Council (NSC) conference room on Monday afternoon.

Mercantile Bank managing director Dewan Mujibur Rahman and Swimming Federation senior vice president Alhaj Mohammad Solaiman were present.
