Barisal 230/4 against Dhaka : Chittagong 225/5 against Sylhet

Nasiruddin Faruque's unbeaten century enabled Barisal Division to reach a comfortable position against Dhaka Division on the 1st day of the four-day 4th round match of the Ispahani Mirzapore Tea 10th National Cricket League at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium (SCS) in Bogra on Sunday.

Batting first after winning the toss, Barisal Division scored 230 runs for four wickets in 90 overs with opener Nasirudin Faruque scored unbeaten 106 runs off 255 balls with 10 fours.

Two down Imran Ahmed scored 54 runs off 126 balls with eight fours and a six, while Nasir Hossain made 25 off 53 balls that included three fours.

Shaheen Hossain (14) and Rony Talukdar (13) were the other notable scorers for Barisal Division.

Nasiruddin Faruque and Raysul Islam were batting with 106 and 15 runs as the bails were drawn for the first day, today.

Al-Hamim and Elias Sunny bagged two wickets each for 46 and 61 runs respectively.

In another match, hosts Chittagong Division in their first innings scored 225 runs for five wickets in 90 overs against Sylhet Division on the first day at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Ruhul Amin Stadium in Chittagong.

Openers Gazi Salahuddin and Nafees Iqbal gave a good start to the hosts contributing 50 runs in the opening stand after Chittagong Division elected to bat first.

Salahuddin scored 50 runs off 118 balls with five fours and a six, while Nafees added 23 runs off 70 balls with five fours.

Nadim Uddin (31) and Mahmudul Hasan (12) were the other notable scorers for Chittagong Division.

Middle order batsman Faisal Hossain contributed 85 runs of 181 balls with 14 boundaries while Rezaul Islam scored not out 18 off 24 balls with three fours at stumps on the day.

Nabil Samad grabbed four wickets for 46 runs while Shubashish Roy took one for 37.

Australia to chase 382 to beat India

Australia will chase a second innings target of 382 on the final day of the series-deciding fourth test after bowling out India late Sunday, leaving the destiny of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the balance.

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Harbhajan Singh registered vital half-centuries on day four that gave India the marginal upper hand. India were dismissed for 295 late on the fourth day, with Australia moving to 13-0 in reply from just nine balls before bad light forced stumps.

The Daily Ittefaq, Independent, Destiny, Daily Star, Bhorer Kagoj won their respective matches of the Pepsi-DRU Inter-House Cricket Tournament on Sunday.

Besides, Amar Desh got walkover from INB on the same day.

Ittefaq (61/0) thrashed RTV (58/2) by five wickets at the Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium. Sazal Zahid of Ittefaq was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Independent (57/1) outclassed Amader Samay (55/1) by four wickets at the same venue. Mir Mostafizur Rahman of Independent was awarded the prize of the Man of the Match.

Destiny (37/1) defeated Diganta Television (36/5) by four wickets at the same venue. Arif Sohel of Destiny achieved the prize of the Man of the Match.

Daily Star (61/0) eliminated UNB (60/3) by five wickets at the same venue. Abul Qalam Azad of Daily Star earned the prize of the Man of the Match.

Bhorer Kagoj (44/4) beat Naya Diganta (35/1) by nine runs at the same venue. Rashed Ali of Bhorer Kagoj was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Div II Football: Police, Little Friends register wins

Police AC edged past Bangladesh Boys Club 1-0 in the day's first match of the Second Division Football League at the Kamalapur Bir Sreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mohammad Mostafa Stadium on Sunday.

Bisheyshor of Police AC scored the all-important goal.

In the day's other match, Little Friends Club beat Bassabo Tarun Sangha by a solitary goal at the same venue.

Shahinoor struck the match-decider for the victorious team.

Today BG Press S&RC will face Euro Famous Club while Kadamtala Sangsad will meet Gazir Chat SC at the same venue.

National cricket championship begins today

UNB, Dhaka

The National (Inter District) Cricket Championship, organized by Bangladesh Cricket Board, begins today (Monday) at six venues across the country with six matches slated for the day.

Opening day's matches: Tangail DSA vs Jamalpur DSA (Tangail Stadium), Noakhali DSA vs Cox's Bazar DSA (Noakhali Shaheed Bhulu Stadium), Sylhet DSA vs Moulvibazar DSA (Sylhet Stadium), Jessore DSA vs Chuadanga DSA (Jessore Stadium), Rangpur DSA vs Chapainawabganj DSA (Rajshahi Stadium), and Shariatpur DSA vs Gopalganj DSA (Faridpur Stadium).

A total of 50 district teams, split into six zones, are taking part in the meet initially on knockout basis.

2nd phase of 3rd division qualifying cricket league begins today

The second phase of the Third Division qualifying cricket league begins today (Monday) at separate city venues with four matches slated for the day.

The matches: Turag Thana Cricket XI vs Swadhinata Cricket Club (Gulshan Youth Club ground), Indira Road Cricket Academy vs Tasin Hasin Cricket Academy (Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium), Corona Cricket Academy vs Dhaka Cricket Academy (Sun) at City Club ground, and Mohammadpur Sonali Sangha vs Little Friends Cricket Academy (Dhaka University ground).

Div I Hockey: Bachelors, Barnak Samaj win

Bachellors Sc beat Dhaka Wanderers Club by 2-1 goals in the first match of the Green Delta Insurance First Division Hockey League at the Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium on Sunday.

After a barren first half Saem, Saeed of Bachelors SC scored one goal each while Rahat of Wanderers pulled off one.

Meanwhile, Barnak Samaj blanked Shishu Kishore Sangha 4-0 at the same venue on the same day.

Barnak led the first half 1-0.

Nadim, Proshenjit, Sumon, Sofen successfully struck one time each on the board.

Today Uttara SC will face Mukto Bihanga Tarun Sangha at 1.15 PM while Victoria SC will meet Farashganj SC at 3.00 PM at the same venue.

Revised scheduled for Women's Handball

The 12th Delta life Insurance Women's Handball Competition will be held in the last week of December instead of November 10. Bangladesh Handball Federation will arrange the handball meet for the women in Dhaka.

Interested college teams, which have not yet send their entries are requested to submit their entry fees at the office room of Bangladesh Handball Federation by November 30.

1st Junior South Asian Tennis Championship inaugurated

UNB, Dhaka

The 1st Junior South Asian Tennis Championship, organized by Bangladesh Tennis Federation, was inaugurated Monday at the National Tennis Complex at city's Ramna.

Ahead of the matches, Tennis Federation senior vice president ATM Hayatuzzaman formally inaugurated the meet in the afternoon as chief guest. Federation general secretary Mohammad Sanaul Haque, tournament director Ahmed Ziaur Rahman and other Federation officials were present.

Some 16 Under-16 players from five countries -- India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and hosts Bangladesh -- are taking part in the tourney, which will be held on Junior Davis Cup rules. Participating teams will play on league basis.

Meanwhile, the singles matches of the meet starts Monday at 2:00 pm while the doubles at 6:00 pm.

Khulna 229/10 in 1st innings against Rajshahi

Despite a century by captain Tushar Imran, Khulna Division were all out for 229 in 71.5 overs against league leaders Rajshahi Division on the first day of the four-day fifth round match of the Ispahani Mirzapore Tea 10th National Cricket League at the Khulna Divisional Stadium on Sunday.

Sent into bat first, Khulna Division faced initial batting debacle losing two quick wickets of opener Nazmus Sadat (1) and one down Ashraful Huda (1) for just 12 runs in 4.3 overs.

But national cricketer cum Khulna captain Tushar Imran played the anchor role to steady the innings contributing 137 runs off 178 balls with 13 fours and three sixes.

Besides, opener Amit Majumder (33), Shahagir Hossain Pavel (12) and Ziaur Rahman (17) were the notable scorers for Khulna. Another 16 runs came from extras.

Spinner Suhrawardi Shuvo grabbed four wickets for 56 runs while pacer Alamgir Kabir and Mohammad Shahzada took two wickets each for 44 and 63 runs respectively.

In reply, Rajshahi Division scored 36 runs for one wicket in 14 overs when bails were drawn for the first day, today, with Jahirul Islam and Farhad Hossain were batting with 17 and 12 runs respectively .

Dollar Mahmud took the lone wicket for 21 runs.

Bangladesh face Myanmar tomorrow

Bangladesh National Football team will face host Myanmar National Football team tomorrow in the inaugural match of the Third Grand Royal Challenge Cup in Myanmar.

Bangladesh, Myanmar, Indonesia are in Group A while Vietnam, Hyundai FC, Malaysia are in Group B.

Bangladesh will meet Indonesia in their second Group A match on November 13.

The champions of the Group A will take on the runners-up of the Group B in the first semifinal on November 18.

The champions of the Group B will meet the runners-up of the Group A in the second semifinal on November 19.

The winners of the each semifinal will face each other in the final on November 21.

In the year of 2005 Bangladesh became Runners-up in this meet. They lost to the champions Myanmar by 1-2 goals in the final.

Ten years ago Bangladesh won their first international champions trophy from Myanmar.

In the recently concluded Mardeka Cup Football Tournament, Bangladesh tasted a 0-1 defeat by Myanmar in their clash.

Before leaving the country for Myanmar, Shafiqul Islam Manik said, "I hope my boys will play well and my target is to improve their performance."

Experienced Matiur Munna will lead the team in the Tournament.

Seven candidates withdraw candidature from BCB election

UNB, Dhaka

Seven candidates withdrew their candidature from Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election on the last day today for the November 12 polls.
