Tax-evasion case: SQ Chowdhury granted bail

UNB, Dhaka

A High Court division bench Sunday granted bail for three months to ex-premier Khaleda Zia's political adviser Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury on his surrender in a tax-evasion case.

Granting the bail following a writ petition, the HC stayed for three months the case proceedings against Salahuddin Quader and issued a rule upon the National Board of Revenue to explain why the case against the petitioner should not be declared illegal.

Another HC division bench, following a petition, granted bail for six months to detained former Mayor of Barisal Mojibur Rahman Sarwar in an arms case.

The case remained stalled due to an earlier High Court order.

Joint forces arrested Sarwar, also the district BNP president, from the capital on May 29 last year on charges of corruption.
