Prize bond draw held

53th prize bond draw of TK 100 was held yesterday at the conference room of Dhaka Divisional Commissioner's' Office with AKM Martuja, additional commissioner of Dhaka division in the chair.

In the traditional system, same number for every series, total 1380 prizes were elected as 46 prizes for each series. Mentionable, there are 30 series of TK 100.

The elected numbers for prize are, first prize (1)- 0712771 (TK 6,00,000); second prize (1)- 0731954 (TK 3,25,000); third prizes (2)- 0406608, 0599627 (each contains TK 1,00,000); fourth prizes (2)- 0086118, 0137118 (each contains TK 50,000); fifth prizes (40)- 0083488, 0086285, 0096058, 0101569, 0166098, 0191135, 0236241, 0242241, 0250944, 0260549, 0283421, 0390875, 0447706, 0452459, 0453851, 0455188, 0472269, 0493936, 0497012, 0498329, 0502357, 0517469, 0550382, 0565600, 0629364, 0659723, 0689760, 0694672, 0744753, 0756731, 0789389, 0801917, 0811981, 0854234, 0859446, 0861805, 0875377, 0884236, 0917878, 0971421 (each contains TK10,000).

Khulna Jamaat leader dead

Shamsur Rahman, former senior Nayebe Ameer of Bangladesh Jammat-e-Islami died yesterday morning at a clinic in Khulna city.

He was 93. He had been suffering from diabetics and heart diseases for long time.

He left behind his wife, four sons and three daughters and host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

His Namaj-e-Janaja was held at the play ground of Khulna Circuit House after Asr prayers. Maulana Delwar Hossain Saidee officiated the final rituals.

He will be buried today at his ancestral home at Mothbari village under Paikhghacha upazila in Khulna after second Namaj-e-Janaja.

Moulana Abu Taher, assistant secretary general, Prof Shah Mohammad Ruhul Quddus, member of central executive council, Prof Mia Golam Poroar, city Jammat Ameer and leaders of the pary and musullis among others, attended his Namaj-e-Janaja.

TAC clemency deadline extended



UNB, Dhaka



The Truth and Accountability Commission (Tac) has extended the deadline till November 16 for the corrupt to apply for clemency in return for their ill-gotten wealth to avert punishment under the clean-up drive.

A government announcement on Sunday said that taking increasing interest of the concerned into consideration the Commission extended the deadline from October 30 to November 16 for making voluntary disclosure of wealth by corrupt persons.

"The timeframe for disclosing information will not be extended anymore," it said, adding that the extended deadline would be also applicable for the reference cases.

With this extension, the Tac extended the deadline for the third time. Initially, the deadline was set on September 1, which was later extended to September 30. Later, the last date was further extended to October 30.

Fare of diesel-run vehicles reduced



UNB, Dhaka



The government has reduced the fare of diesel-run inter-district and long-haul vehicles by Tk 0.07 per kilometer following the reduction of diesel oil price by Tk 7.

However, the fares of CNG-driven buses and minibuses plying in Dhaka and Chittagong Metropolitan cities remained unchanged at Tk 1.20 and 1.10 per kilometer respectively, said a PID handout.

It said the fares of CNG-run buses and minibuses running on the roads of the districts adjacent to Dhaka and Chittagong will also remain unchanged.

German Trade Show begins Thursday



UNB, Dhaka



Around 62 exhibitors, including 58 business firms, will participate in the first-ever 'German Trade Show', beginning here Thursday.

Commerce Adviser Hossain Zillur Rahman is scheduled to inaugurate the show at the China Friendship Conference Centre.

Saiful Islam, President of Bangladesh-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BGCCI), said this at a press conference Sunday.

"The show will bring the two countries a bit closer to know each other, and will crate more new opportunities to expand trade ties between the two countries," the BGCCI president said.

Saiful Islam hoped that the show would also encourage German companies and investors to outsource the production of intermediary products to Bangladesh.

The trade show includes a series of presentations to be made by German and Bangladesh experts covering various aspects of German-Bangladesh trade, including a high-profile roundtable titled 'Social Market Economy: A Model for Bangladesh, Saiful told reporters.

The Bangladesh-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BGCCI) in cooperation with the German Embassy-Dhaka and GTZ has organized the three-day show.

The exhibitors will inform visitors about their German business, products and services available for Bangladesh and about Bangladeshi products and services available for German market.

Tax-evasion case: SQ Chowdhury granted bail



UNB, Dhaka



A High Court division bench Sunday granted bail for three months to ex-premier Khaleda Zia's political adviser Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury on his surrender in a tax-evasion case.

Granting the bail following a writ petition, the HC stayed for three months the case proceedings against Salahuddin Quader and issued a rule upon the National Board of Revenue to explain why the case against the petitioner should not be declared illegal.

Another HC division bench, following a petition, granted bail for six months to detained former Mayor of Barisal Mojibur Rahman Sarwar in an arms case.

The case remained stalled due to an earlier High Court order.

Joint forces arrested Sarwar, also the district BNP president, from the capital on May 29 last year on charges of corruption.
