Two slaughtered in Meherpur



MEHERPUR, Oct 28: Two people, including a middle aged woman, were slaughtered by unknown assailants at Gopalpur village in Sadar upazila on Friday midnight. Local people recovered the bodies of manpower businessman Lokman, 35, of Gopalpur, and Hameza, 30, daughter of Abdul Jalil of Madnadanga village, this (Saturday) morning. The bodies were lying 20 yards apart in a field at Gopalpur village. Police quoting local people said, Hameza was a floating prostitute and Lokman was a pimp. The reason behind the double murder could not be known immediately. The two bodies were sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, reports UNB.



2 JMB men arrested in C'nawabganj



CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Oct 28: Two members of outlawed Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were arrested along with some documents from Bishwanathpur village in Shibganj upazila early Saturday. They are Rafiqul Islam, 27, of Ramganjhat of Nilphamari district and Hajrat Ali, 22, of Hazinagar of Naogaon district. Police said on secret information that some JMB men gathered at the house of Ekramul Haque of the village to hold a secret meeting. Later, a team from the Shibganj police station raided the house at about 1:30am and arrested the two JMB men while five others, including house owner Ekramul, managed to flee, reports UNB.



Drug addict son kills mother in Khulna



KHULNA, Oct 28: A drug addict youth killed his mother in Siddiqia area of the city on Friday night. Police said Anisur Rahman stabbed his mother Sufia Begum, 55, grievously as she refused to give him money for buying drugs at about 9 pm. Sufia, wife of Sohrab Hossain, was declared dead when she was rushed to the Khulna Medical College Hospital. Anisur went into hiding soon after the incident. His elder brother Yusuf filed a murder case against him with the Sonadanga Thana on Saturday morning, reports UNB.



One jailed for six months in dowry case



JHALAKATI, Oct 28: A court here on Thursday sentenced a man to six months imprisonment and also fined Tk 5,000 in a dowry case. The convict was identified as Abdul Mannan Dakua of Noikathi village in Sadar upazila of the district. He was present in the dock when the judge pronounced the verdict. According to the prosecution, Nurul Haque of Baroikaran village filed a case against his son-in-law Mannan as he demanded dowry money from his wife Fatema in 2003. After examining the records and witnesses, Judge of Senior Judicial Magistrate Court M Asadullah handed down the verdict, reports UNB.



One killed, valuables looted in Noakhali



NOAKHALI, Oct 28: Robbers looted valuables worth Tk 4 lakh after killing house owner at Moitkhola village in Sonaimuri upazila on Friday midnight. Local UP Chairman Didar Hossain said armed bandits swooped on the house of Akhtaruzzaman and looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth Tk 4 lakh. Akhtaruzzaman, 65, was shot dead and his son Kamal Hossain injured when they tried to catch the fleeing robbers. On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested one Mofizuddin, 50, for his alleged involvement with the robbery, reports UNB.
