Rickshaw van driver Omar Ali won the best award of the 'Magic Tin Chakar Taroka' at the final round of the event at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the city Saturday night.

The three contestants - Omar Ali, Abdur Rahman Khokon and Mokhlesur Rahman - took part in the final round.

Of them, 50 years old Omar Ali won the best award. Mokhlesur Rahman became first runner-up and Abdur Rahman second runner-up in the contest. Eminent drama actor and politician Asaduzzaman Noor moderated the show.

Omar Ali received the award from noted musician Sudhin Das, artist Mustafa Monwar and artiste Abdul Hadi. He got cash one lakh taka on behalf of Square Toiletries Ltd, the first runner-up received Tk 50,000 on behalf of ATN Bangla and second runner-up received Tk 25,000 on behalf of Square Toiletries Ltd. Rest seven contestants got Tk 15,000 each on behalf of Square Toiletries Ltd.

A VCD of the 10 contestants were launched at the event. Cultural Affairs Adviser Rasheda K Choudhury launched the album.

Cultural Adviser said, "This is a good initiative. It should continue in the long run." She proposed to launch a new contest like this for females named 'Char Deyaler Taroka.' M Ashiqul Islam Chowdhury, Executive Director of Square Toiletries Ltd, Dr Mahfuzur Rahman, Chairman of ATN Bangla, among others, were present on the occasion.

At the event, artistes Abdul Zabbar, Syed Abdul Hadi, Subir Nandi, Abida Sultana, Ferdous Ara, Kanak Chanpa performed with the five contestants of the competition. Besides, artistes Asif and Momtaz also rendered songs at the function. Journalist Munni Saha coordinated the show. The Magic Tin Chakar Taroka started on September 1 with rickshaw-pullers, van drivers and auto-rickshaw drivers.

Kendrio Kochi-Kanchar Mela celebrates 52 years

The 52nd anniversary of Kendrio Kochi-Kanchar Mela was held at the Auditorium of the organisation at Segunbagicha in the city recently.

Kendrio Kochi-Kanchar Mela started its journey on October 5 in 1956.

Eminent educationist Prof Anisuzzaman was present as chief guest at the function, while Khondaker Ibrahim Khaled, Director of Kendrio Kochi-Kanchar Mela, chaired the programme. At the programme child Zidan took part in the discussion. Child artistes of 'Kotha Bitan,' 'Sur Bitan' and 'Nritya Bitan' performed at the function. Rashedul Hasan Zunayet and Deboshri Mukherjee Tuntuni moderated the show.

Vanessa Hudgens, who was home schooled, says starring in the 'High School Musical' movies allowed her to live the rites of passage she missed.

Says Hudgens, "I got to experience my prom, I got to wear a cap and gown for the very first time, graduate with people who I really love, the cast. So it's been a lot of fun." Hudgens co-stars in 'High School Musical 3: Senior Year' with Zac Efron and Ashley Tisdale, who talked to reporters together in Los Angeles to promote their new movie.

As for Efron's real-life high school experience, the heartthrob actor says: "I got really good grades. I'm not going to lie." Tisdale, who did not belong to any clique and mingled with everyone, says she became friends with the popular kids before realizing "they are not that cool."
