Combating price hike

On account of various cogent reasons our hole-hearted and whole length free market economy is not justifiable, beneficial and acceptable. Rather we may have a fifty-fifty free market economy in our country.

In fact, we can never check and contain price hike of essential goods and commodities by holding meetings, discussions and receptions among our ministers, advisers, secretaries to the government of Bangladesh and Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry officials, making long speeches and lucrative promises.

We strongly feel that we may divide our goods and commodities into two categories. Essential goods and commodities like rice, ata, lentil, soyabean oil, sugar, power milk, etc., etc., may be placed in 'A' category. And general goods and commodities like meat, fish, chicken, egg, vegetables, fruits, spices, onion, ginger, garlic, molasses and etc., may be placed in 'B' category.

'A' category goods and commodities may be procured, imported and purchased in public sector through our Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) as and when necessary consistent with demand and supply of the people and sold out on the basis of no loss no profit to the local/ domestic businessmen, traders, and shopkeepers for open market sale among the people. The government should monitor the prices of essential goods and commodities under 'A' category and bring the dishonest traders and shopkeepers to book. 'B' category of general good and commodities would continue to enjoy the privilege of free market economy.
