Heroic role of Bangladeshi peacekeepers lauded

Coalition of Local NGOs, Bangladesh (CLNB), on Friday held a meeting in memory of five Bangladeshi peacekeepers, including a police officer, who were killed in a road crash recently.
With CLNB Chairman Harunur Rashid in the chair, the memorial meeting was held at city's Muktangan organized on the occasion of the United Nations Day, a press release said.
The speakers lauded the heroic role of the Bangladeshi peacekeepers who, earned reputation, in maintaining peace in world's troubled spots including Africa and Asia.
They said the ranking of Bangladeshi soldiers in the UN peacekeeping mission is the highest in the globe for their professionalism, skill and ability to deal with difficult situation.
The speakers also said the Bangladeshi peacekeepers have been contributing to the country's economy by earning a huge amount of foreign exchange.
The Bangladeshi peacekeepers also received the prestigious Dag Hammarskjold peace medal in recognition of maintaining peace in the world.
A munajat was offered seeking peace for the departed souls of BangladeshI peacekeepers.
The executive chairman of CLNB Syed Saidur Rahman Syed, general secretary of Swidenata Party Faiz Hossain, Subal Sarker and Women leader Gulshan Ara Doli spoke on the occasion, the press release added.
Education fair begins at Notre Dame College
BSS, Dhaka
A two-day education fair with participation of educational institutes both from home and abroad began at Notre Dame College (NDC) here on Friday.
International Understanding and Relations Club of Notre Dame College organized the fair on 'Enlightened people-enlightened world'.
A good number of educational institutes and organizations including University of Development Alternative, British Council, American Centre, information and cultural division of Japan, London Metropolitan University, University of Windsor, Independent University Bangladesh and American International University of Bangladesh are taking part in the fair.
The representatives of participating universities will give guidelines to the students about admission.
The fair will be concluded tomorrow 4.30 pm. A film show will also be held after the fair, organisers said.
Photography course of DUPS begins from Oct 30
BSS, Dhaka
The month-long 15th basic photography course of the Dhaka University Photographic Society (DUPS) will be started on 30 October next.
Classes of the course will be held three days a week (Thursday, Friday and Saturday), said a press release today.
Interested persons have been requested to collect entry forms for the course from the Food Corner, TSC Campus Shadow, Arts building Jahir's Canteen and Curzon Hall.
Certificates will be given after successful completion of the course
WTO DG felicitates DCCI on its Golden Jubilee

Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Pacal Lamy on Thursday felicitated the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) on the eve of its Golden Jubilee to be celebrated on October 31.
In a message, he said " I would like to congratulate the DCCI in its golden jubilee. After 50 years and against the background of current world turmoil, it is useful to look at the experience of the past to devise solutions for our future challenges."
Meanwhile, the DCCI is going to organize a two-day International Trade Conference (ITC) to be inaugurated on October 31 at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Center (BCFCC) on the occasion.
The theme of the conference is "Nest fifteen years: A vision for Growth."
Renowned economists, entrepreneurs, planners, commerce ministers, Nobel laureates, chamber leaders of different countries and representatives from international media have confirmed their participation in the conference, DCCI sources said.
Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed is expected to inaugurate the ITC.
Four roundtable conferences, trade fair will be held at different venues of the center during the conference.
Cover of a research book, containing 400-year history of Dhaka City, titled "Trade History of Dhaka" will be unveiled and a commemoration stamp will also be released on the occasion.
Besides, the 400-year history of dresses and the evaluation of food habits in Dhaka city will be displayed through light and sound show on October 31, the sources added.

He was addressing a publication ceremony of a book "Samayer Rajkumari' by writer Farah Mazid Saddha at National Press Club.
Poet Sayed Ahmed Ali Aziz presided over the publication ceremony of the book while Chairman of Asiatic Society Prof Sirajul Islam, Bangla Academy Director General Sayed Md Shahed, BSS Chief Editor Jaglul Ahmed Chowdhury, Prof Rajib Humayun, addressed, among others in the function.

Shoeb Chowdhury, a successful entrepreneur with special interest in Technology based Industries is widely known at both home and abroad. He was directly associated with different committees of United Nations and Commonwealth.
He is the Secretary General of International Institute of Business Analysis and a Director of Special Olympics Bangladesh.
