DU Correspondent

Fair Election Monitoring Alliance known as FEMA strongly urged all political parties to register with the Election Commission (EC) to contest the upcoming national elections.

The registration of political parties is significant to establish internal democracy within the parties and creating accountable political parties to strengthen the democratic process in the country.

FEMA, which was formed in 1995 to strengthen democratic process in the country, also urged the EC to be flexible about political parties' registration

FEMA believes that Political parties cannot run without democracy and need practice internal accountability for the sake of democracy in the country.

"We have seen in the past that political parties devoid of internal democracy and financial accountability can never promote or strengthen democracy within the parties," said Feroz M Hassan, president of FEMA.

Hasan said the registration of the political parties was the long-standing demand of FEMA.
