4 killed, 6 hurt in separate incidents in three districts

A housewife was murdered and another allegedly committed suicide at separate places of Lalmonirhat district on Thursday last.

Quoting local people, the sources said housewife Shirina Begum, 25, was beaten to death by her husband Shafiqul Islam and his second wife China Begum following long-term family feuds in Hatibandha upazila town of Lalmonirhat. Being informed, Hatibandha thana police rushed to the spot, arrested China Begum, recovered the body and later conducted its autopsy at Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital.

A murder case was filed with Hatibandha police station. On the same day, one Sufia Khatun, 30, wife of Saroj Ali of village Fulgach under Sadar upazila in Lalmonirhat allegedly committed suicide by taking poison at home for unknown reason. A UD case was filed in this connection with Sadar thana police the sources said.

BSS Rangpur adds: Two persons, including a minor boy, were killed and six others injured in separate road accidents at different places in Rangpur and Kurigram districts on Sunday. Rickshaw van puller Lebu Mian, 30, his passengers Abdul Gafur, 70, and Laksmi Narayan, 50, of village Rampura were seriously injured when a Syedpur-bound passenger bus hit their rickshaw van at Taraganj bus stand at Taraganj upazila town in Rangpur.

Later, injured Abdul Gafur succumbed to his injuries at Taraganj Upazila Health Complex (TUHC) in the evening.

Motorcycle rider Lal Mian, 35, of Kurigram was seriously injured when his motorcycle skidded off the road while saving a cow at Jigatola point on the Syedpur-Rangpur highway under Taraganj upazila in Rangpur.

Minor boy Al Amin, 2, was killed and his mother Begum, 23, Fatema, 10, and Lutfa Begum, 8, were seriously injured when a Bhurungamari-bound bus from Kurigram hit the rickshaw carrying them at Chondipur point in Nageswari upazila of Kurigram on Sunday.

Nageswari police rushed there, rescued the injured people, sent them to the hospitals and seized the bus from the spot. Separate cases were filed in these connections with the concerned police stations, the sources said.

Dacoity in night coach: Cash and kind looted

A dacoity was committed in Hanif Enterprise night coach on Bonapara-Haticumul highway recently.

One of dacoits was arrested. The driver of the coach was stabbed and injured seriously.

The arrested dacoit was identified as Masud (20), son of Abdur Razzaque of the village Baghoil under Ishurdi Upazila of Pabna district. Three sets of mobile, a camera, a knife and cash Taka 1200/- were recovered from Masum (Masud) when he was arrested. According to his statement, they were eight (8) in number of them, five persons were of Ishurdi area and rest three persons were of Dhaka. They got into the coach from Dhaka as a passenger. Supervisor of the coach. Topon Kumar and a passenger Md Tosaddeque said when the coach reached at Nawabazar of Gurudaspur Upazila, dacoits started dacoity at 8.30 PM.

They looted cash taka, materials and goods worth about Taka 7 lakh and injured passengers, using knives. Dacoits took steering of the coach stabbing driver Md Abdul Hamid. They began to loot the belongings of passengers showing knife. When the coach reached at Sutrpar under Baraigram Upazila at 9 PM dacoits stopped the coach and tried to escape. But the police force rushed to the spot hearing shouting of passengers. Then dacoits entered into the field of sugarcane and paddy. The police and the local people started miking and gheraoed the crop-fields of the village Atua and Natabaria. At 11.30 PM in night police arrested a dacoit (Masud) from the crop fields of Atua. A.S.P of Baraigram circle A.K.M. Al Kibria, O.C. of Baraigram Md. Monzur Rahman and A.S.I Md Mamunur Rashid took part in this raid with their police force. A case has been filed in this connection with Baraigram police station.

Language veteran Nannu laid to rest in Barisal

Mosharraf Hossain Nannu, the leading activist of language movement in Barisal, passed away of old age complication in his residence at Bogura Road area of the city on October 4 last and laid to rest on October 5 at Barisal Muslim Gorosthan.

Mosharraf Hossain Nannu, popularly known as Bhasha Soinik Nannu Bhai and well-known as guardian, leader and founder of different progressive socio-cultural-human rights activities and movements of the city was born on March 30, 1927 in Barisal.

He left his wife, 2 sons, 1 daughter and huge number of admires and followers to morun his death.

Hundreds of people from all walks of life rushed to the house of Nannu Bhai after hearing the news of his demise and paid tributes on his coffin kept on the Shok -Mancha (condolence stage) and wrote their comments on condolence-book opened on this occasion at Aswani Kumar Hall premises on Sunday morning.

His namaje-janaja was held in front of Aswani Kumar Hall at 12:10 pm Sunday noon and laid to rest at Barisal. Muslim Grayveyard attended by thousands of people including BCC Mayor Shawkat Hossain Hiron.

Different organisations and personalities including BCC Mayor, Barisal Sangskritik Sangothan Samannaya Parishad, Barisal Reporters Unity, Barisal Metropolitan Journalist Union, Bar Association, Muktijoddha Sangshad, leaders of major political parties including BNP, AL, JP, CPB, and other socio-cultural organisations, NGOs expressed their deep condolence on the sad demise of Nannu Bhai they expressed deep sponpathy to the bereaved family members.

Durga Puja being celebrated in peaceful manner in Rupganj

4 held with 350 bottles phensidyl in Dinajpur

Members of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) arrested four drug-peddlers along with 350 bottles of Phensidyl at Kamalpur area under Sadar Upazila of the district on Monday. The arrested were identified as Abdul Jalil, 35, Nazrul, 40, Mazzom, 26, and Nazrul Islam, 32.

The BDR sources said the arrested were found carrying Phensidyl bottles in bags.

3 killed in road mishap

Three persons, including a woman were killed and six others injured when a Dhaka bound passenger bus from Gaibandha collided head-on with a truck at Pakulla under Mirzapur upazila in the district this morning.

Two of the dead were identified as Asma, 24, and Ananda, 28, both from Gaibandha. Identity of another dead could not be known immediately.

Police sources said the passenger bus from Gaibandha collided head-on with the truck coming from the opposite direction at Pkulla at around 6.00 AM today. Two of the bus passengers died on the spot while another succumbed to his injuries at hospital.

Six injured passengers were admitted to Mirzapur and Kumudini hospitals.

A case has been filed with Mirzapur police station in this connection.

Eid re-union held in Rupganj

Awami League and its front organisations held an Eid re-union meeting at Rupganj area of Rupganj Upazila in Narayanganj on the 6th October last at 10 AM with Abdul Motalib AL President of Rupganj Upazila in the chair. K.M. Shafiullah former army chief and the central leader of the AL addressed the meeting as a chief guest.

3 killed in Tangail road mishap

At least three people, including a woman, were killed and 20 others injured in a collision between a bus and a truck at Pakulla in Mirzapur upazila Tuesday morning.

Two of the dead were identified as Asma Begum, 30 and Ananda Mia, 20, while the identity of another person could not be known immediately.

Police said the accident occurred at about 6:30am when a Dhaka bound passenger packed bus from Gaibandha collided with a truck coming from opposite direction, killing three people on the spot injuring 20 others.

The injured were admitted to Mirzapur Kumudini health complex.

Dumb woman killed after rape in Comilla

UNB, Comilla

The body of a dumb woman, who was reportedly killed after gang rape, was recovered at Sonakanda village in Meghna upazila on Monday.

Police said some spoiled youths of the village picked up Anwara Begum, a maid of UP member Mazharul Haq, on Friday night and took her to a boat where they raped her one after another.

Later, the miscreants strangled the woman to death and concealed her body in a water body. As Anwara went missing UP member Mazharul Haq logged a GD with local police station Monday morning.

Police arrested Arif, a youth of the village, and recovered the body from the water body at noon following his statement.

Police arrested another youth, Mazharul Haq, in his connection.

Electrician electrocuted in Khulna

KHULNA, Oct 9: An electrician was electrocuted in Paikgachha Sadar upazila on Tuesday noon. The dead was identified as M Selim, 27, son of Liaqat Ali of Manat village in Paikgachha upazila. Local sources said Selim came in contact with a live electric wire while giving electricity connection to a Puja Mandap at about 12 pm. Police recovered the body and handed it over to the family members at about 2 pm, reports UNB.

Beheaded body found in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ, Oct 9: The beheaded body of an unidentified woman was found in the river Madhumati in Gobra area of sadar upazila on Saturday. Police said, local people saw the body floating in the river and informed them. Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. Police suspected that assailants slaughtered her and dumped the body into the river, reports UNB.

Youth dies in road crash in Comilla

COMILLA, Oct 9: A young man was crushed under the wheels of a truck at Mostapur in Sadar South upazila on Monday. The identity of the youth could not be known immediately. Police said the young man died on the spot as the truck ran over him when he was crossing road at about 7:am. Police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed, reports UNB.

DINAJPUR, Oct 9: The slaughtered body of a housewife was recovered from Muraripur village in Bochaganj upazila Monday. The dead was identified as Putul Rani Roy,31, wife of Kailash Chandra Roy of Ishania village. Police said Putul Rani went missing since she went out of her house on Sunday morning. Later, her slaughtered body was recovered from a paddy field. Victim's brother filed a murder case. Police arrested Kailash Chandra for interrogation, reports UNB.

4 shops gutted

in Noakhali

NOAKHALI, Oct 9: Four shops were gutted in a fire at Abumazirhat bazar in Companyganj upazila Sunday night. Fire brigade sources said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a hardware shop at about 11:30am and soon engulfed its nearby shops. On information, firefighters rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire with the help of local people. The losses caused by the fire were estimated at around Tk 30 lakh, reports UNB.

DINAJPUR, Oct 9: A youth was electrocuted at Bhushirbandar village in Chirirbandar upazila here Monday. Witnesses said Abdul Aziz,30, got electrocuted when he was repairing an electric wire of a puja mondop at a local bazar in the afternoon. He was rushed to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital where he died. A UD case was filed, reports UNB.

Woman killed by husband in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Oct 9: A housewife was killed allegedly by her husband following a family feud at Chandanpur village in Sarishabari upazila Tuesday morning. The victim was identified as Bimala, 40, wife of Ahamed Ali of the village. Police said the couple locked into an altercation in the morning. At one stage, Ahmed struck on the head of Bimala with a stone slab, leaving her dead on the spot. On information, police recovered the body of Bimala and sent to hospital morgue for autopsy.
