Lightning kills two in Bhola



Bhola, Sept 28: Two people were killed in lightning in separate incidents in Charfashion upazila of the district on September 28 last. The dead were identified as Suman, 15, of Char Jamuna village and Sultan Ahmed, 30, of Char Neulin village. Local sources said thunderbolts hit them when they were working in the paddy fields of their respective villages, reports UNB.



One killed in road mishap



Mymensingh, Sept 28 : A man was killed and five others were injured as a bus rammed into an auto-rickshaw in Seedstore area of Bhaluka upazila on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on September 28 last. The deceased was identified as Abdul Hye, 40. Police said the Mymensingh bound bus hit the auto-rickshaw, leaving its six passengers injured at about 9am. Of them, Abdul Hye succumbed to his injuries when he was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Conditions of three injured passengers at the same hospital were stated to be critical, reports UNB.



One succumbs to his injuries in Jessore



Jessore, Sept 28 : A man, who was beaten up by his family members at Deapara village in Sadar upazila on Thursday, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital here on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Ashraf Hossain, 46, son of Mahtab Moral. Police quoting local people said Mosharraf Thursday morning along with his sons Al-Mamun, Sumon, Sujan and Sohag, daughter Shilpi and wife Julekha beat up his younger brother Ashraf mercilessly over a land dispute. He was rushed to the 250-bed district general hospital where he succumbed to his injuries Saturday morning, reports UNB.



Uplift project of Tk 8 crore taken up for Rangamati pourashava



Rangamati, Sept 28 : A Tk 8-crore development project has been taken up for increasing civic amenities of Rangamati pourashava dwellers. Under the project a number of roads, bridges and culverts will be constructed and drainage system improved. Necessary steps will also be taken to ensure supply of pure water in the pourashava. Officials said the government will take further initiative for the overall development of the pourashava and its people, reports UNB.



Valuables looted Sylhet



Sylhet, Sept 28 : Robbers injured 15 people and looted valuables from the passengers of some 20 buses by felling trees on Komolganj-Sreemongal road at Janokichhara in Moulvibazar district Friday night. Witnesses said the bandits numbering 20/25 barricaded the road at dead of night and looted cash, mobile phone sets and gold ornaments from the passengers. The robbers also beat and stabbed 15 passengers indiscriminately when they tried to resist them. They were admitted to a local hospital. On information, police visited the spot, reports UNB.



VGF rice seized in Sherpur



Sherpur, Sept 28 : Police recovered 12 maunds of rice of VGF programme from a shop at Suryadi Bazaar in Kamaria union under Sadar upazila Friday night. Acting on a tip-off, Sadar thana police raided the shop of Helal Uddin and recovered the rice. Local people said some Union Parishad members misappropriated the government rice by making fake cards in the name of distressed people and stored it in the shop to sell at high prices. Helal Uddin went into hiding. A case was filed, reports UNB.
