The District and Police Administrations have taken adequate preparations for peaceful celebrations of the Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, in a befitting manner in the district. Erections of the idols of goddess Durga have been nearing completion and the idol-makers are now very busy in putting the final beauty-touches to the idols at different mandops in all five upazilas of the district.

Many people of all ages including children, men and women have already started visiting the puja mandaps with enthusiasm and their Puja-marketing has been continuing in full swing. Administration sources today told BSS that the five-day religious festivity will be celebrated with due religious solemnity, and gaiety and will conclude through the immersion of the idols on the day of the Bijoya Dashami.

A total of 301 puja mandaps are being erected in all five upazilas throughout the district this year and the number is all-time higher and it might increase further by the next couple of days, the sources said.

The upazila-wise breakup of the mandaps in the district is:

100 mandaps will be erected in Sadar upazila, 68 in Aditmari upazila, 62 in Kaliganj upazila, 55 in Hatibandha upazila and 16 in Patgram upazila.

Special security steps have been arranged for vulnerable 44 mandops in these five upazilas where additional security people and Ansar-VDP members will be deployed. The whole district has already worn a festive look and the Hindu community people have been preparing to celebrate the Durga Puja.
