Tight security measures for Eid, Durga Puja taken in Ctg

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) have taken tight security measures ahead of Eid ul Fitr and Durga Puja in port city to secure the security of people of Chittagong, police and RAB source said.
The security measures will continue till the end of the Durga Puja, on October 10 next, the source added.
A total of 3750 police and Ansar personnel would be deployed through the 218 teams in 198 important places markets across the port city.
At least 37 checkposts will be set up by the CMP authority to keep vigil to check any untoward situation particularly on the Eid day. The CMP authority also will deploy about 208 teams of police personnel in each 210 Puja mondop after the Eid. District police source said, they have taken decision to deploy over 1650 police and Ansar personnel in the Puja Mondop of different upazilas of the district to maintain law and order as well as ensure the peaceful celebration of the two holy events.
Authorities will also keep close eye at every entering point of the port city in a bid to prevent any attempt to create untoward incident, the source added.
Besides, RAB-7 here have also taken tight security measures with 680 plainclothes RAB men in Chittagong, Comilla and Cox's Bazar zone.
The elite forces will keep continuous vigilance till completing the Durga Puja on October 10 next. They will deploy 480 members at different vintage points of the port city, 110 in Comilla and 70 in Cox's Bazar zone.
The anti-crime elite force will also set up 22 checkposts including all the city entry points of port city to ensure security of people of Chittagong on the holy Eid and Durga Puja.
Inter-religion dialogue held in Mymensingh

An Inter-Religion Dialogue under the Project of Religious leaders involvement for human resource development was held at D.C.(Mymensingh) conference room on 20th September. Professor Md. Akthar Hossain, Vice Chancellor, BAU was present as chief guest while it was chaired by Md. Ziaur Rahman, D.C (Mymensingh). It was organised by Ministry of Religion, Bangladesh Govt. It was financed by UNF.P.A., Bangladesh. Implemented by Islamic Foundation, Mymensingh. Abul Kalam Azad, D.D, human resource development project, Moulana Mofazzul Hossain Khan, Board Governor, Islamic Foundation, Han Jahangir Alam, Secretary, Islamic Foundation also addressed in the meeting.
The chief guest said only honest, sincere men are treated as human resource in society. We should be self-sufficient in food production, industrial goods. We should not depend on import only, production in agriculture and industrial sector can make the country self reliant.
Workshop on human rights held in C’nawabganj

A day-long workshop on 'Execution of human rights, the prerogative of the establishment of justice' was held at the Zila Parishad auditorium on Wednesday.
Arranged by Bangladesh Society for the Enforcement of Human Rights (BSEHR), Chapainawabganj district unit, the workshop was held with the president of the organisation Advocate Abdul Gaffar in the chair.
District and Sessions Judge Hrishikesh Saha was present in the workshop as the chief guest.
Among others, Deputy Commissioner Sirajul Hoque Khan, Chief Judicial Magistrate Basudeb Roy, Additional District and Sessions Judge Arun Kumar Goswami, Secretary of BSEHR Advocate Moazzem Hossain Mehedi spoke in the workshop.
Adulterated food manufacturing factory unearthed in Barisal

A mobile court unearthed a factory of adulterated tea and food drink manufacturing factory of famous brands of the country and arresting four fined Tk.50 thousand.
On basis of tip the mobile court team led by ATM Mahbubul Karim, administrative magistrate and accompanied by Major Kutubur Rahman Sarkar and Major Sahadat, officials of RAB-8 raided the factory of Abubakar Siddik at Palashpur cluster village-2 of the city on Tuesday noon.
There they found huge chemicals, colors, packets and other components using for manufacturing adulterate tea and food drinks of famous and popular brands of the country.
The owner of the factory managed to flee away and four including Alamgir Hossain, brother of the factory owner and three workers detained, owner fined Tk.50 thousand and recovered adulterate items and components destroyed by the law enforcers.
UP chairman gets 5 years imprisonment for misappropriating CI sheets

The chairman of Madan union parishad under Madan upazila of Netrakona district MA Ahad was awarded imprisonment for five years by district speedy trial Court here recently for misappropriating government allocated CI-sheets.
According to the court sources, the prosecution story, in brief, is that the UP chairman Ahad misappropriated 39 pieces of relief sheets and used these for making roof of his residence at Madan upazila town. Acting on a secret information, a team of joint forces recovered the CI-sheets from the roof of his residence on the day of 24th February in the year of 2007 last and filed a case with Madan police station against him.
The UP chairman Ahad managed to escape from the house sensing the arrival of the joint forces and remained absconding for a long time. Later, he surrendered to the court on 9th July of the current year. The court sent him to the jail custody. Madan thana Police after investigation of the case submitted the charge sheet before the court. Later, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Netrakona Atuwar Rahman who is also the Judge of the Tribunal Court after examining the witnesses and evidences found the UP chairman M A Ahad guilty and declared the verdict, the sources added.

Relief goods distributed among distressed people in Kurigram

Rangpur area office of Hamdard Laboratories Bangladesh distributed relief goods and cash among distressed people of remote Jhunkar Char village on the Brahmaputra bed in Sadar upazila of Kurigram on Tuesday.
Authorities of Hamdard distributed Taka 50,000, huge quantities of dry food, 'Ruh Afza' among the poor in the remote char village with a view to mitigate their sufferings during the holy month of Ramadan.
Rangpur regional manager of Hamdard Hakim Jahangir Alam, its Kurigram manager Jashim Uddin Mollah, local representative Kamal Faruque, former UP chairman of the locality Abdul Jabbar and UP member Nasar Uddin were present on the occasion.
One commits suicide

A man committed suicide by taking poison at Kalitala village under Baliadangai upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The dead was identified as Ahsan Ali,42 of Kalitala village.
Police said, family feud may be the cause of the death.

Motorcyclist killed in Baraigram road mishap

A motorcyclist Abdul Matin (35) died in a road accident on September 21.
He was son of Md Shahadat Hossain of the village Nitainagar under Baraigram upazila. He was going from his village Nitainagar to Razapur. But at the place of Dhakaidah on Natore-Pabna road, the accident occurred with a micro-bus. Abdul Matin was injured seriously and taken to a local hospital. But doctor declared him dead.
One person held with firearms in Comilla

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested one person with country-made two LGs and two bullets from Rajmalipur village under Sadar thana of the district on Wednesday.
RAB sources said, on secret information a team raided the house of Hossain Mia and recovered the firearms from the ceiling of his house. A case was filed with concerned police station in this connection.
Youth killed in Dhunot

A youth was chopped to death at village Kurigati under Dhunot Upazila in Bogra district in the very small hours on Wednesday, police sources said.
The sources said some miscreants chopped Saiful Islam, 24, son of Alhaj Zesarat Ali of the village while the victim was sleeping in an open room of their under-construction house and left the place ensuring his death.
Inmates of the house later found the body of Saiful, who was serving as a meter-reader of the Rural Electrification Board (REB) of Raiganj REB Office in Sirajganj district.
Being informed, Dhunot Thana police rushed to the spot on Wednesday morning, recovered the body and sent it for conducting autopsy to a Bogra hospital. Saidul Islam, younger brother of the victim, filed a murder case with Dhunot police station.
Pangsha poura mayor assaulted

Mayor of Pangsha Pourasabha was assaulted by some miscreants at Pangsha bus stand area on Wednesday morning.
Police said, Serina Aziz, mayor of Pangsha pourasabha came under attack by a group of miscreants as she came out of her house at around 10.00 AM. Local people came into her and rushed her house to the local a health complex for treatment.
A protest procession was brought out by Pangsha Poura Parishad and local business bodies. They submitted memorandum to the Pangsha upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and demanded punishment of the culprits. A case was filed with Pangsha police station in this connection.
Zakat Foundation distributes relief materials among Gaibandha poor

Ekota, a local NGO, in cooperation with Zakat Foundation-Bangladesh, has distributed relief materials among the poor women of Kholahati union under Sadar upazila in the district Wednesday.
A simple function was also held on the occasion at the hall room of Ekota with Upazila Nirbahi Officer M. Arif Nazmul Hasan in the chair.
Nahid Sultan, Country Director of Zakat Foundation- Bangladesh, addressed the ceremony as the chief guest while Mr Tarhan, representative of Zakat Foundation, USA, attended it as guest of honour. M. Lutfor Rahman Mondal, executive director of Ekota gave welcome speech.
Later, relief materials were given to 30 poor women. The relief materials included rice, pulse, oil, sugar, semai, and potato.

Youth slaughtered
KERANIGANJ, Sept 26: A young fruit trader was slaughtered in south Keraniganj area early today (Tuesday). The deceased was identified as Rubel, 22, son of Babul, of Aganagar Nadidhara area. Police said some friends of Rubel called him out of home at about 1am and took him to the rooftop of a nearby house. They slaughtered Rubel and left his body on the roof. The house inmates saw the body during sehri time and informed police. On information, police sent the body to Mitford Hospital in Dhaka. A case has been filed, reports UNB.
Adulterated oil seized in Sherpur
SHERPUR, Sept 26: A joint team of RAB and district administration conducted an anti adulterated drive and seized 200 drums of palm oil from an oil mill at Court Road in Nakla upazila on Monday. The team raided Popular Oil Mills at noon and caught red handed its employees while mixing palm oil with mustered oil. The team also sealed off the mill and realized Tk 50,000 in fine. RAB sources said the mill owner has long been selling palm oil mixing with mustered oil in the name of original mustered oil. Upazila administration sources said the mill owner, earlier, had been fined Tk 1 lakh for doing the same misdeed, reports UNB.
Two arrested along with Indian clothes in Gualunda
GUALUNDA, Sept 26: Two people were arrested along with some Indian clothes worth over Tk 1.5 lakh from a bus at Dauladia Ferry Ghat early Monday. Police said acting on a tip-off, they raided a Dhaka-bound bus of Hanif Paribahan at about 3am and seized the Indian clothes, kept in its side-box. Later, the law enforcers arrested two persons in this connection, reports UNB.
One killed in Savar roof collapse
SAVAR, Sept 26: A girl was killed and two people were injured in a roof collapse incident at Jamgara in the upazila Wednesday morning. The deceased was identified as Ankhi, 14. Witnesses said the roof of a bathroom of Ali Akbar's house collapsed at about 7am, killing his tenant's daughter Ankhi on the spot. Injured Rahima, 22, and Anik, 28, were admitted to hospital, reports UNB.

NARSINGDI, Sept 26: Two people, including a schoolboy, were killed in separate road accidents on Monohordi-Dhaka road Wednesday. Police said Sabbir Miah, 12, a class-VI student of Monohordi Pilot High School, was crushed under the wheels of a truck near the bus stand when he was returning from school by a bicycle at about 12 pm. In another incident, Basiruddin, 90, was run over and killed by a passenger bus at Narandi on Monohordi-Dhaka road this noon, reports UNB.

NATORE, Sept 26: RAB personnel arrested a fugitive convict from Banurbhag area under Naldanga thana here on Tuesday. The arrested was identified as Liyon, a BNP worker and resident of Ramsa Kazipur village of the thana. Acting on a tip-off, RAB members raided the area and arrested him at 12 noon. Police said Liyon was also wanted in 18 criminal cases, reports UNB.

SYLHET, Sept 25: A gang of muggers stabbed a businessman and snatched Tk 1 lakh from him at Srirampur on Shahjalal bypass in South Surma upazila Sunday midnight. Witnesses said the snatchers stabbed Noor Mia, 45, businessman of the upazila, indiscriminately and took away the money. He was admitted to the Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where his condition was stated to be critical, reports UNB.
