Group art & craft exhibition at Zainul Gallery

A six-day group art and craft exhibition ended on September 16 at the Zainul Gallery 1 of the Institute of Fine Arts of Dhaka University. Three young artists - Mahjabin Rahim Moitry, MD Asaduzzaman Sohel and Nargis Akhter Lata - of the Department of Crafts of the Institute of Fine Arts of Dhaka University participated in the exhibition.

The young talented artists displayed their craft works in different mediums like tapestry, batik, metal and woodwork. Moreover, art works in mixed medium were also presented in the show.

All the three promising artists presented magnificent tapestry works, the woven colourful textile fabrics with figures or designs. Usually tapestry works are not exhibited in maximum exhibition or show as because the medium is expensive and involves much hard work. Each of the artists expressed their spirit with their works, which had a unique composition of colour and texture.

Nargis Akhter Lata presented some unique woodwork a titled of 'Kushum' series. She presented three huge woodworks, titled 'Kushum Shaj,' 'Kushum Nadi' and 'Kushum Kanya.' Tranquil woman figures were depicted in the medium by her had the viewer enthralled. Lata also presented masks in metal and figurative tapestry works at the show.

In works of Mahjabin Rahim Moitry, she presented colourful figure of a woman and little animals like rabbit and owl against a backdrop of nature. In the backdrop of the realistic works, she created an abstract work titled 'Emotion' in tapestry.

In the work, she presented human emotion through warm coloured loom. Another participant artist Asaduzzaman Sohel tried to prove himself as a good craft artist in the show. Most of his works could be considered as abstract works.
