Milk production can alleviate poverty, improve lifestyle in N-dists

Speakers at a views-exchange meeting here have said that proper attention could make at least 35,000 landless and low-income group families economically self-reliant in nine northern districts.
They said this at the day-long meeting on "Milk Production, Problems and Solutions in its Marketing" organised by CARE- Bangladesh under its Strengthening the Dairy Value Chain (SDVC) at a local hotel in Rangpur on Tuesday. The meeting was organised for the milk producers of Rangpur as a part of the ongoing SDVC programme in nine districts of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Gaibandha, Bogra, Sirajganj, Naogaon and Joypurhat in northern Bangladesh to increase milk production through involving the local landless and low-income group people.
Chaired by Project Manager of Strengthening Dairy Value Chain Project of CARE-Bangladesh Arunav Saha, the meeting was attended by District Livestock Officer of Rangpur Dr Rowshanuzzaman as the chief guest. Dr Azaharul Islam from District Artificial Insemination Centre of Rangpur, Upazila Livestock Officers Sohrab Ali Mandal of Sadar and Abu Bakar Siddique of Mithapukur, Youth Development Officer of Mithapukur Upazila Osman Goni, SDVC Officer Ashraf Hossain, were present. Milk producers Rehana Begum and Ruhul Amin and milk-collector Aminul Islam, also addressed the meeting. Dr Rowshanuzzaman took part in the subject-based discussions and answered various questions asked by the participants in the meeting that was participated by the milk-producing farmers from Sadar and Mithapukur upazilas in the district.
The experts said the prevailing prospects of the diary sector on the poverty-prone river basins in northern Bangladesh including Greater Rangpur could be explored in a planned manner to change the overall socio-economic status of the people in the area.
100-day job generation programme begins in Mymensingh

Mymensingh Sadar Upazila Administration has taken up some uplift schemes under government's 100-day employment generation programme, creating employment opportunities for 950 poor people and Tk. 90,50,000 will be distributed among poor people. Md Ziaur Rahman Khan, D.C. Mymensingh formally inaugurated the programme at 11 Gagra Union Parishad, under Sadar Upazila of the district.
It was arranged by 11 Gagra Union Parishad with the assistance of Sadar Upazila Administration.
Each of the beneficiaries will get Tk. 100 daily. Md. Zakir Hassain, UNO Sadar, D.R.R.O Mafizuddin, ADC (General), AC (Land), Chairman Karim BSC and members of the union parished were present on the occasion.
Discussion on significance of Ramzan held in Rupganj

A discussion meeting on significance and education of the holy Ramzan and Itfar party were held at Maruf Sarmin Smrity Sangstha premises of Rupganj in Narayanganj on the 20th September last organised by the sangstha with Hazi Mozammel Hoq Bhuiyan establishment of Hazi Eklas Uddin Bhuiya High School and the mentioned Sangstha in the chair. Nahid Sultna Mollick Rupganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer was present as the chief guest as well as Abu Ali Sazzad Hossain, Assistant Commissioner Land, Abu Mohammad Fazlul Karim O.C Rupganj Thana, Hazi Azharul Islam, Chairman Eklas Group of Industries were special guests o the meeting.
The meeting was attended among others by the Government officials, teachers, businessmen, religious persons, correspondents of different newspapers including the elite. The chief guest, special guests and some elite urged the people from all walks of life to be committed to lead lives according to the Islamic mandate in their address.
Later Maulana Sirajul Islam conducted doa Mahfil and Maulana Mafizul Islam, Principal of Noapara Mohila Alim Madrasha offered special prayer for the Muslim Umma and for the salvation of all departed souls.
Eight wounded in Rupganj clash

Nur Alam, a trader of Moshar village under Rupganj Upazila in Narayanganj fell a victim to terrors attack on the way home at 11 AM on the 20th September last following the previous enmity. On information the family members of the victim rushed to the spot and tried to protect the victim.
Then a clash ensued between the two groups. 8 people of both the two groups were seriously wounded. The wounded were identified as Bachchu Mia 32, Rafiq Uddin 40, Nur Hossain 18, Nur Alam 20, Zahirul Islam 17 and all were sent to the Dhaka Medical College.
Cases were filed with Rupganj Thana in this connection by both the two groups. According to the locals, one Abdur Rashid of Moshari village allegedly led the assault with lethal weapons.
Case filed against forest officials, fishermen in Patuakhali

A case has been filed in Patuakhali against forest officials and fishermen for destroying and concealing evidences on the deaths of domestic animals.
Such deaths of the domestic animals were caused by drinking of water poisoned by fishermen to catch fish.
Sabuj Khalifa, a farmer of Char Montaj, has filed the case with Patuakhali Tribunal for Prevention of Crimes against Public Safety under Speedy Trial Act. The judge of the tribunal on Thursday ordered officer in charge of Rangabali police station to investigate into the matter and submit its report as early as possible.
Kazi M Alauddin, bit officer, Somen Barua, assistant bit officer, M Rafiq, office assistant of Sonarchar forest bit, Ata Elahi, forest bit officer of Char Montaj and their collaborators and fishermen Mosharraf Hossain, Narayan Howladar, Biswa Kabiraj, Sumon Kabiraj and Nira Howladar have been made accused in the case.
Meeting to maintain law & order held in Netrakona

A meeting on "Crime control method "was held at Simulkandi Bazar under Rouha union parishad of Netrakona Sadar Upazila recently. Netrakona Model thana police and Rouha union parishad jointly organised the meeting under open house day programme of police. Acting Police Super Netrakona Saidur Rahman Khan attended the meeting as chief guest while chairman of Rouha union parishad Makbul Hussain Sarker was in the chair. The meeting was addressed, among others, by assistant Police Super Netrakona Ibrahim Khan, Officer-in-charge of Netrakona model thana Abu Taher Mia, former chairman of the Rouha union parishad Abdur Rouf Suruj and president of Simulkandi Bazar Committee Abdul Gafur.
A large number of people from all walks of life attended the meeting. The meeting discussed matters relating to crime prevention method and role of police officers in maintaining law and order.

One killed in Rajbari road mishap

One businessman was killed in a road accident on Rajbari-Kushtia-Highway at Afra-Durgapur crossing in Rajbari Sadar upazila of the district on Thursday night here.
Police said, the deceased was identified as Joynal Sheikh-50, of Kushtia. He was coming from Mohonpur village of Kustia with a banana laden truck bound for Dhaka. The accident took place at Afra-Durgapur crossing at around 7 PM on Thursday night in Rajbari sadar upazila of the district when the truck came at the venue.
At one stage the speedy truck fell into the roadside ditch and the victim died on the spot and three others were injured.
A case was filed with Rajbari Sadar thana police station in this connection. The injured rushed to the local hospital for treatment.
Child marriage foiled in Chuadanga

A child marriage was foiled at village Kumari under Alamdanga upazila of the district on Wednesday at late night with the interference of police.
Police said the marriage of minor girl Alo Khatun, 12, daughter of Hasibul Islam of the village, was scheduled to be solemnised at that time but on a secret information a police team from Alamdanga rushed to the residence of Alo Khatun's father and stopped her marriage.
Police further said the bridegroom along with his relatives fled away sensing the presence of police.
Technical centre opens in Chandpur

A private technical centre was opened in the town on Wednesday to train unemployed youths who want to go abroad with job.
Chandpur Municipality Mayor Md Nasiruddin Ahmed formally inaugurated the centre.
Training will be provided to youths in different mechanics trades aimed at making them able workforce of the country.
Phensidyl, car seized in Ghoraghat

Police seized huge quantities of contraband Phensidyl and a private car from Nurjahanpur Colony point on the Dinajpur-Dhaka highway under Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur on Friday night, police said.
Acting on a tip off, a special police team from Ghoraghat Thana put barricade on the road at the point and stopped a Dhaka-bound private car (Dhaka- Metro-Kha 11-1807) from Dinajpur frontier.
After searching the car, the police team seized 320 bottles smuggled Indian Phensidyl and also seized the car from the spot. Driver of the car, however, managed to escape the scene abandoning his car sensing police barricade and police filed a case in this connection with Ghoraghat police station, the sources said.
Body of youth recovered in Taraganj

Police recovered hanging body of a youth on a banyan tree on the bank of the river Jamuneswari in village Kholeya Nandaram Paul-para under Taraganj upazila here on Saturday, Police sources said.
The victim was identified as Milan Chandra, 18, son of Sipendra Nath of the village.
Being informed by the villagers, Taraganj police rushed there and recovered the hanging body of Milan Chandra from the tree and sent it for autopsy to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Reason of the death could not be confirmed immediately and a UD case was filed in this connection with Taraganj police station, the sources said.
Community policing committee formed

Community Policing Committee of 7 No. Ward, Juaria was formed at Bahimali Bazar in Baraigram Upazila on September 15.
This committee consists of 15 members. Of them, Md Abul Kalam Azad was selected as a chairman and Md Munir Hossain as a secretary. Sub-Inspector Md Jakir Hossain and Abdul Yaual were present in the meeting.

2 killed in Comilla road mishap
COMILLA, Sept 22: Two people were killed when a covered van rammed into a microbus on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Batisha in Chouddagram upazila Saturday morning. Police said the covered van hit the Dhaka-bound microbus at about 7am, killing microbus driver and passenger on the spot. The dead were identified as Zahirul Islam, official of multi-level marketing company Destiny 2000, and driver Badshah Mia. Zahirul Islam hailed from Brahmanpara upazila of the district, UNB.
Diesel seized in Golanda
GOALANDA (RAJBARI), Sept 22: Police in a drive seized some 12 barrels of stolen diesel worth about Tk 1.5 lakh from a trawler in launch ghat area here early Friday. Acting on a tip-off, police raided the area at about 4am and seized the diesel while being unloaded from the trawler. They also arrested a van-puller, Alauddin Mondol, from the spot. Alauddin during interrogation confessed that the diesels were stolen from a ferry and a dredger at night and he was engaged by ringleader of the smuggling gang Shafiqul Islam Shafi to reach the fuel oil to his godown, reports UNB
Body exhumed in Rangpur
RANGPUR, Sept 22: Body of a young man was exhumed after three months of his burial in Pirganj upazila on Tuesday. The court ordered to exhume the body of Mukhlesur Rahman, 35, of village Hossainpur in the upazila following the prayer of his wife Fatema Begum. Fatema in her prayer said a number of people, including UP Chairman of Bara Alampur Hafizar Rahman and three UP members, picked Mukhlesur up from his house on May 6 this year bringing an allegation that he had stolen a shallow pump, reports UNB.

RANGPUR, Sept 22: A man was killed allegedly by his younger brother at Chethali Pashchimpara village in Mithapukur upazila on Tuesday. Local people said an altercation ensued between Elias and his younger brother Yunus when the former went to plant a tree beside house of the latter. At one stage of altercation, Yunus hit Elias, 40, with a spade on his head, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital where he succumbed later. Victim's wife filed a case in this connection, reports UNB.

JHALAKATI, Sept 22: A fugitive convict was arrested at Talgachhia village in Kathalia upazila on Friday. On secret information, police arrested Shimul, 28, from the village at about 4 pm. Shimul was sentenced to eight years imprisonment by a court in absentia in a robbery case, reports UNB.

death in Charghat
RAJSHAHI, Sept 22: A housewife was stabbed to death by terrorists at Barkatpur village in Charghat upazila Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Champa Begum, 26, wife of Saidar Ali. Local people said some terrorists swooped on the house of Saidar and stabbed his wife Champa indiscriminately when she was cocking in the kitchen at about 8pm, leaving her critically injured. Hearing the shrill cry of the victim, local people rushed in and admitted her to the Upazila Health Complex. Later she was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where she died late at night, reports UNB.
