CA announces only political part: CEC

Staff Reporter

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dr ATM Shamsul Huda has termed the announcement of election date by Chief Adviser of Caretaker Government Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed as "the political part," which is "not unlawful".

"The Chief Adviser did not announce the election schedule, which is our part," the CEC told the New Nation soon after the CA's largely telecast address to the nation.

"The Chief Adviser did not do it without consultation with the Commission. He (CA) held three rounds of talks with us before announcing the election date," the CEC added.

Some people were mistaken to amalgamate two separate things. Announcement of election schedule and announcement of a date are not the same, he explained.

"The Chief Adviser represents the political side and can say many things that we cannot do. Announcing the election date by him is not unlawful," the CEC said.

"According to law, the Election Commission will do its duty by announcing the election schedule which," he said, "will take time."
