A woman and her daughter were killed as a truck rammed into their motorbike at Purat in Shanthia upazila today (Tuesday).

The deceased were identified as Joynab Khatun, 30, head clerk of Shanthia Women Degree College and her five years old daughter Madina.

Joynab's husband Hafez Minhaj,40, was injured critically in the accident.

Family sources said the accident occurred at 10am when a truck rammed into the motorbike of Mijhaj, leaving his wife Joynab and daughter Madina dead on the spot. Injured Minhaj was rushed to district general hospital. Minhaj along with his wife and daughter were going to his father-in-law's house by the motorbike.

Timber worth Tk 1.5 cr seized in Bandarban in a month

Forest Department officials, in various drives, seized 10,000 cubic feet illegal timber worth about Tk 1.5 crore here in a month.

They also seized six trucks and seven boats used for timber smuggling.

Forest Officer F M Munirul Islam said, acting on a secret information these timber were seized from Bolipara, Thanchi, Tankabati, Chimbuk, Waijunction, Sheronpara, Chauripara, Kamlong, Tarachhamukh, Goaliakhola, Langirchar, Bhorakhali, Boroitoli and Chitakhola area.
