Power loom workers put barricade on Dhaka-Ctg Rly line
Train communication between Dhaka and Chittagong was disrupted as hundreds of power loom workers put up barricade on the railway line at Amirganj Railway Station yesterday demanding uninterrupted electricity supply to their factories. During the railway route blockade programme thousands of train passengers have faced immense hardship yesterday. Following a three hour-long negotiation between the workers and Narsingdi Palli Bidyut Samity-2 officials, the agitated workers withdrew the barricade at noon. "Officials of Narsingdi Palli Bidyut Samity-2 assured us of supplying at least 18 hours uninterrupted power to our factories," a worker said. The frequent power cut, which is halting production is also affecting our wages, workers claimed. The agitated workers also demanded to withdrawal of General Manager of Narsingdi Palli Bidyut Samity-2 Syed Wahidul Islam for his failure to supply power to the industrial units.
