12 injured in Kurigram clash



Kurigram, Sept 16: At least 12 people were injured in a fierce clash between two rival groups over land dispute at Dhaniram village in Fulbari upazila on Thursday. Local people said there was a longstanding dispute between Sadiar and Kashem Ali of the village and Meser Ali and Jahur Ali of neighboring Gogarkuti village over three bighas of land. They said when supporters of Sadiar and Kashem went to cultivate the disputed land in the morning their rival group resisted them. Later, both the groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other leaving 12 people from both sides injured, reports UNB.



Body recovered in Benapole



Benapole, Sept 16: Body of an unidentified young man was recovered from near rail station here Thursday morning. Police said local people found the body early in the morning and informed them. They later rushed to the spot and sent the body to hospital morgue for autopsy. Police suspected the assailants following a previous enmity strangulated him to death and left the body in Bottola area of the rail station at night. A case was filed, reports UNB.



One slaughtered in Bagerhat



Bagerhat, Sept 16: A man was slaughtered by miscreants at Syedpur village in Sadar upazila on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Devprosad, 47, son of Haripada Devnath of the village. Police said local people found the slaughtered body of Devprasad in a betel nut garden near his house Thursday noon. He might have been killed sometime on Wednesday night. The reason behind the killing could not be known immediately, reports UNB.



One slaughtered in Pabna



PABNA, Sept 16: A man was slaughtered by unidentified miscreant at Boalmari Madhyapara village in Chatmohor upazila on Friday. On information, police recovered the slaughtered body of Israfil, 20, from a brickfield at night and sent it to General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Reason behind the killing could not be known immediately. A case was filed, reports UNB.



Baby boy drowns in Habiganj



HABIGANJ, Sept 16: A two-year-old boy drowned in a pond at Hossainpur village in Nabiganj upazila on Friday. Local people said Rahim Miah, 2, son of Abdur Rahman drowned in the pond nearby his house in the afternoon. Family members found Rahim floating and they rushed him to local upazila health complex where the attending doctors declared him dead, reports UNB.



Drug peddlers held in Natore



NATORE, Sept 16: A young woman was arrested along with 300 phials of injection, generally used by the drug addicts, from a train at Natore rail station early Saturday. Police said they arrested Salma, 23, along with the contraband injection from Dhaka-bound intercity "Ekota Express" train coming from Dinajpur at about 2 am. Salma is a resident of Kamalapur area in Dhaka, police said, reports UNB.



Cattle lifters held in Habiganj



HABIGANJ, Sept 16: Police arrested five members of an inter-district cattle lifting gang from near Goplar Bazaar in Nabaiganj upazila here early Saturday while fleeing with cattle by a truck. The arrested are Selim Ahmed, 25, of Sunamganj district, Akhter Ali, 28, of Sylhet and Ali Hossain, 20, and Morshed Miah, 22, of Habignaj district. Police said the thieves lifted four cattle from the houses of Renu Miah and Nazmul Haque of Kagabala union in Moulvibazar district at night. While passing the Goplar Bazaar area, patrol police on suspicion halted the truck late at night and arrested the thieves along with the four cattle, reports UNB.
