A commendable job of RHD indeed
Our Correspondent, Sirajganj
Sirajgonj Road Division has done a commendable job by repairing damaged deck slab of 130 meter (425 ft)long RCC bridge named as Royhati Bridge situated at Royganj Upazila in Dhaka-Sirajgonj-Bogra National Highway. The deck slab of the said bridge which was built in the early decade of '60 was damaged and the vehicles were plying with great risk on the steel decks of bailey bridge lying over it. Later on, when the situation had become very bad, it was decided to build a diversion road with a portable steel bridge beside the damaged bridge to repair the deck slab at the cost of taka 1 (one) crore & 1 (one) lakh. But Md Abu Rawshan, Executive Engineer with his great initiative and discreet the bridge was being repaired at a cost of taka 5 (Five) lakh only, without making any diversion road. At this great job of RHD about 1 (one) crore taka was saved, on the other hand, road users did not have to suffer discomfort of diversion road. While asked about the repair work, Engineer Md. Abu Rawshan, told Correspondent that the work was a very challenging, risky and sensitive as well. We carried out our work by concreting one lane allowing traffic flow in the other lane and then we alternated the process. The task was risky because the bridge was continuous subject to shock because of impact of vehicular movements and which might be caused to disturb the gaining of strength of concrete.
Keeping all those difficulties in mind beforehand, we forwarded to execute the repair work.
However, we over-came all the problems by our professional skill and our devotion to Department. Many old bridge in other Divisions of RHD, especially in Dhaka-Tangail Highway, are being repaired by making alternative bridge in diversion road. If the example of Sirajganj Road Division regarding the repair of old bridge was followed crores of money of Government would be saved, the local Engineers opined.
