Event: Syed Mainul, Humayun Ahmed receive Sheltech Award

Architect Syed Mainul Hossain and novelist Humayun Ahmed at a function received the Sheltech Award 2007 for their contribution to their respective fields.

The function was held at the Conference Lounge of the National Press Club on Tuesday.

Eng Kutub Uddin Ahmed, Chairman of Sheltech Ltd, handed over the Sheltech crest to Syed Mainul Hossain, while Faridur Reza Sagar, Managing Director of Impress Telefilm Ltd, gave it to Humayun Ahmed on the occasion. Taufiq M Seraj, Managing Director of Sheltech, also attended the ceremony.

The awardees also received a cheque for Tk 1 lakh each.

While receiving the award, Syed Mainul Hossain, architect of the National Martyrs' Memorial, expressed his happiness on getting the award.

Sheltech introduced the award in 1998 by honouring poet Shamsur Rahman.

Singer Kalim Sharafi, artist Qayyum Chowdhury, singer Feroza Begum, litterateur Rabeya Khatun, sceintific write Muhammad Zafar Iqbal won the award for the following years until 2004 when the company began awarding two personalities every year. Puppeteer Mostafa Monwar and Shykh Seraj get the award for 2004 while Professor Mamtajuddin Ahmed, film director Soovas Dutt, Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed and actor Abul Hayat received the award for 2005 and 2006 respectively.
