JAF protests AL's statement on BNP leaders' release

UNB, Dhaka

Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum (JAF), a pro-BNP lawyers' organisation, yesterday protested the remarks made by Awami League acting general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam on the release of BNP leaders, including its senior joint secretary general Tarique Rahman.

In a statement, the JAF led by BNP Standing Committee member Khandaker Mahbub Uddin Ahmad condemned Syed Ashraful's remarks that "the country is being made dysfunctional by releasing corrupts one after another".

The JAF statement said since it is the jurisdiction of the court to grant bails to the accused in criminal cases, all parties, including AL, are getting the advantage.

It said adverse remarks following the releases of Tarique and some other leaders on bails from higher courts are nothing but conspiracy to make the court dysfunctional.

"The task of establishing a democratic government will be impeded if chaos is created through confusing statements. The result of such action will not be good for anybody," the statement.
