A Pageant of Forms and Figures: Exhibition of Dhaka Art Circle’s 12 artists

Dhaka Art Circle, formed in 1993, is a well-known group of artists of the country. Since then they have organised regular exhibitions, workshops and seminars at least once a year. The group is led by veteran artists like Samarjit Roy Chowdhury and Abu Taher and runs on the basis of cooperation among younger and older artists. This is an exceptional group in the sense that the exhibitions are organised with a mission - to provide philanthropic service to the people, society and culture as a whole. The income generated from the paintings is generally spent for humanitarian causes. As a example, members of the Dhaka Art Circle raised their hands to help the flood and SIRD affected people.
Dhaka Art Centre organised a group exhibition titled 'A Pageant of Forms and Figures' at the Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts in the capital recently.
The participant artists were - Samarjit Roy Chowdhury, Abu Taher, Mohammad Mohsin, Syed Enayet Hossain, Anwarul Huq, Rejaul Karim, Biren Shome, Matlub Ali, Swapan Chowdhury, Abdus Shakoor, Chandra Shekhar Dey and Rafi Haque.
Artists Samarjit Roy Chowdhury, President of Dhaka Art Circle, said, "Dhaka Art Circle represents a small group of painters with similar sensibilities based in Dhaka. The Centre is now 15 years old. It is pleasantly surprising that the group has stayed together and worked over this period of time." After establishment of the Centre, has lost two talented painters and devoted members - artists Golam Sarwar and Shamsul Islam Nizami. Aesthetic contributions of the new members have provided Dhaka Art Circle with new dimensions till now.
Artist Samarjit Roy Chowdhury is country's one of the renowned artists who has been working since middle of 1950. He is very fond of experimenting and trying out new forms and techniques. Art is his passion, patriotism and respect for nature in his art is admirable.
Artist Abu Taher has been a prolific painter and always tries to carry an individual characteristic in his works. His work reflects a pensive and thinking mind, one that searches for the right relation between figures, spaces and compositions. The colours of his canvas give us a romantic and imposing view. A number of works reveal the thoughtful and meditative mood of Bengali women. After viewing his works, one can realise the beauty of simplicity of nature.
Artist Matlub Ali is simultaneously an artist, a musician, a critic and a writer. He has shown outstanding evidence in both creativity and skill in each branch. His sincerity, dedication and depth of knowledge have helped him to reach his present position. He claims to be introverted. It has a reflection in his works.
Artist Mohammad Mohsin is always searching in his passages through the vast diverse ocean of nature to enrich his works. His reflected the matter in his artworks.
In works of Abdus shakoor, folk ballads of Mymensingh - the famous love story of 'Mahua' and 'Malua' - are the main concept. He depicted stories from that with the elements and motifs like 'Nakshi kanthar math' and 'Gazir pat.' He tried to focus on the expression of female faces, specially the eyes.
He has used motifs such as 'Alpana' patterns and various types of animals found in our country. He has also used some geometrical shapes like rectangles, straight lines and circular forms.

It is well known to everyone that art refers to a diverse range of human activities, creations, and expressions that are appealing to the senses or emotions of a human individual. Art is created by people and sometimes neglected by people. Art can change the life.
"Chobir Hat is an online art club, which works to develop and improve the relationship between people and art. And we believe it is a platform for the Bangladeshi artists. We want to spread our fine artwork through this group. I hope all our group members will stay with us in this never-ending journey through colour. We just want to create a relation between artists, their works and art lovers. And Chobir Hat is our first step to make this relationship," said Fatema Abedin Nazla of Chobir Hat, a famous face book group, about an exhibition titled 'Friendship Art Exhibition,' which was held at the Drik Gallery in the capital recently.
Eminent television actress Tarana Halim, artist Abdus Shakoor Shah, acting Dean of the Institute of Fine Arts of Dhaka University, Sabera Aktari Jamal, General Manager of Uttara Bank Ltd, among others, were present at the inauguration of the show.
The exhibition was the first initiative of the Chobir Hat. A total of 46 artworks were on display at the show.
Artworks of Sunil Kumar, Anisuzzaman, Md Jahangir Hossain, ASM Rashidul Alam Manik, Ashague Ul Haque, Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Md Farhad Ali Khan Rubel, Anu Annam, Mahbubur Rahman, Md Jahir Uddin, Suman Biswas, Mazharul Islam, Najib Tareque, Dravid Saikot, Pijush Talukder, Palash Datta, MM Maizuddin, Gopal Nag, Sharmin Zaman, Mahedi Anjuman, Nuruzzaman Babu, Farjana Ahmed Urmi, Zakia Rayhana Rupa, Raihan Ahmed Rafi, Mainuddin, Mizan Mahmud Rajib, Mehedi Hasan, Md Hasan Morshed, Sidratul Montaha, Nusaib Naim, Aminul Islam Akon, Xecon Jasim Uddin, Masuma Islam Khan, Simu Roy, Rob and Rahman Dewan Syed, Tanvir Alim, Tapan Kumar Gope, Touhin Hasan, Taufiqur Rahman, Sadia, Silvia Nazneen, Tarak Mahadi, Mahfujul Islam Rubel, Md Raqibul Hassan Raqib and Hafiz Muhammad Ismail were taking place in the exhibition.

Audition round of Dhaka Division of the Super Hero Super Heroine, a talent hunt contest for film, was held at the Floor No 9 of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) in the city on September 1.
A jury panel consists of eight judges selected the contestants of the event. Filmmaker Shibli Sadik, actor Ilias Kanchan, producer Raihan Mujib, sine journalist Rezanur Rahman, Gazi Mazharul Anwar, SA Haque Alik, film director Cashi Nazrul Islam, producer Sudeep Kumar Dey, filmmaker Mohammad Hannan, producer and director MN Ispahani, Secretary general of Film Producers Association Shah Alam Kiron, President of Film Producers Association Shawkat Jamil, producer Arif Zahan, Zakir Hossain Razu, Matin Rahman, Kazi Hayat, Amzad Hossain, Montazur Rahman Akbar, FI Manik, among others, were present on the occasion.
Managing Director of BFDC Badrul Amin gave welcome speech on August 26, ingural day of the audition round.
A total of 15,580 contestants registered their names for the audition in Dhaka Division. Of them, 8,166 participated in the round. Winners of the contestants got 'Ticket to Dhaliwood.' They will to the next round.
