Notre Dame University Over the decades Notre Dame College (Dhaka) has been playing an excellent role in imparting secondary level (higher) education in the country. Many of its students are now illustrated figures in various professional areas of the country. In the recent years Notre Dame College (Dhaka) has become the single major provider of students (at entry grade) for engineering, medical (and other basic subjects) education in the country. Out of its annual output of around 1400 boys nearly 40 percent takes engineering courses, and 35 percent takes medical courses and the rest 25 percent takes other subjects - science, arts, business and commerce etc. These boys study at home and abroad alike and they also figure very fairly in their graduation/post-graduation studies. This has been possible because the college could successfully maintain its education standard. But the truth is that the standard of our education, even at university level, has sharply deteriorated at such a pass that most certificate holder graduates/post-graduates could not make their mark when the face competitions. In this backdrop of falling standard of education, we have no option left but to impart quality education (knowledge) to our wards if we are to reach any level (of development) as an independent nation (state). We believe, the Notre Dame authority may take a lead in this field by: (a) establishing an university (Notre Dame University) for graduation and post-graduation education in major branches of studies, and (b) establishing college at all major cities like Chittagong, Comilla, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Faridpur, Barisal and a second campus in Dhaka City. It may be mentioned, in most of the above towns, there are missionary administered High Schools and for immediate benefits those schools may be upgraded into colleges for high secondary education. We would be looking forward to see that The Notre Dame authority acts in positive response. Abu Musa Miah Lalbagh, Dhaka
