US help to combat human trafficking assured UNB, Dhaka The United States will continue to support Bangladesh as part of its global effort to combat trafficking in persons, a senior official with USAID said yesterday, amid concerns that revisiting existing laws are important for a comprehensive legal framework. Denise Rollins, Mission Director of USAID in Dhaka, said her government is keen to strengthen partnership with various stakeholders including government and other professional bodies to deal with the menace. She made the comment at a discussion on "Trafficking in Persons: Emerging Need for a Comprehensive Legal Framework" at the Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium. The Legal Education and Training Institute (LETI), Bangladesh Bar Council and International Organisation for Migration (IOM) organized the discussion to conclude a series of training on trafficking issues for lawyers. As part of the latest effort, more than 1300 lawyers from across the country received training on the issue. Barrister Amir-Ul Islam presided over the discussion while additional secretary to Home Ministry Sheikh Abdur Rashid represented the government to the discussion.
