Quality edn to make students worthy citizens emphasised

Speakers here have emphasised the need for improving the quality of education everywhere with view to giving proper knowledge to the students for making them worthy citizens of the country.
They said this at a discussion meeting titled “Guardians' Gathering for Improving Standard of Education” organised by authorities of Nababganj Mahila Degree College in its auditorium in Nababganj Upazila town of Dinajpur on Thursday. Chaired by Principal of the college Prof Abdul Hakim the meeting was attended by founding president of the governing committee of the institution and valiant freedom fighter Abu Syeed as the chief guest. Assistant Professor Kazi Johurul Haque of the college, Superintendent of Narayanpur Madrasha Moula-na Obaidul Haque president of the managing committee of Nababganj Girls' High School Fazlul, Haque former chairman Tozammel Haque, guardian Nure Alam Siddique and journalist Ruhul Amin, addressed the function.
Upazila level government and NGO officials, teachers, guardians, members of different School Managing Committees, journalists, professionals, local public representatives and elite were present.
4 killed, 11 injured in separate road mishaps in Barisal

Four people were killed and 11 were injured in three different accidents in Barisal district.
Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital sources said that Halim Chowdhury, 70, and Ripon Sardaar,26, two pedestrians died at about 9 pm Thursday night after driver of a passenger bus of Ma Enterprise ( Barisal Ba 05-0047) plying on Muladi-Barisal route loosing his control over the vehicle hit the roadside shops and pedestrians near Payadarhut school at 7:30 pm.
At least 11 others were injured in that accident and admitted at Barisal and Muladi hospitals.
In another accident, Rashid Majhi a pedestrian injured by hit of tempo at Weather office area on Barisal-Lakutia road on Thursday morning, succumbed to his injuries at night at SBMCH.
Hussein Ali Bepari, 75, another pedestrian injured by the hit of a motorcycle at Senerhut area under Uzirpur police station of Thursday noon also died at SBMCH on Thursday night.
Police lodging four separate cases of unnatural deaths with Barisal Kotwali police station handed over the dead bodies of the victims after autopsy on Friday.

The extended meeting of Sadar Upazila Krishak League was held at District Awami League Office.
It was presided over by AKM Shamsul Haque Dudu Master. The meeting was conducted by Md. Yousuf Ali, Central Krishak League leader, Ashduzzaman Biplob, Ishaq Ali Sardar, Mozzafar Alikhan, Dr Ansar Ali, Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Saidur Rahman, Amirul Alam, Golam Sarwar were also present. The speakers urged release of Sheikh Hasina, withdrawal of false cases, release of Awami League Secretary Abdul Jalil including withdrawal of all Awami Leaders cases.
The speakers also urged supply of fertiliser to farmers at fair price. All the leaders and workers of union and ward attended the meeting.
Sakina Islam laid to rest

Syeda Sakina Islam, former law maker, laid to rest at Barisal Muslim Gorothan after namaj-e- janaza in front of Aswani Kumar Hall on Friday noon.
She was 75 and died of old age complications at her residence in Lalmatia area of Dhaka on Thursday noon and dead body was brought to Barisal on Friday morning.
She was widow of Fakrul Islam Khan, former editor of regional weekly Khadem and mother of Aminul Islam Bulbul, cultural personality.
QulKhani Syeda Sakina Islam was be held at her Barisal residence in Sadar Road area of the city of Saturday afternoon.
Mahanamjagya held in Gopalganj

A seven days long religious festival of the Hindu community Sree Mahanamjagya was held at Khatra Kalibari campus of Gopalganj town on August 16
It was inaugurated by SM Ashfaque Hussain, Deputy Commissioner Gopalganj and presided over by Nirmal Chandra Biswas, president Khatra Kalibari Committee of Gopalganj town, Mohammad Moniruzzaman ADC (general) and Probir Kumar Roy ASP (circle) were also present as special guests.

Programmes to celebrate MSUA taken in Gaibandha

District Administration and Department of Fisheries have jointly taken up the elaborate programmes to celebrate the Matsha Sampad Unnayan Abhijan (MSUA)-08 in the district from August 23 to 30 in a befitting manner.
A meeting to chalk out the programmes on the abhijan was held at the conference room of District Collectorate building here on Monday with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abu Muhammad Yousuf in the chair.
The programmes include holding of rally and motivational meeting, imparting training, publicity, operation of mobile court, arrangement of essay writing competition and releasing fish fries to mark the week.
DC in his speech sought cooperation of all to make the abhijan a success in the district.
Captain Mohammad Sadiqul Islam of Gaibandha Army camp, Deputy Director of DAE ANM Mizanur Rahman Amin, District Fisheries Officer ASM Rashedul Haque and other members of MSUA Celebration Committee including the journalists were present on the occasion.

GPA-5 got and meritorious students of SSC and Dakhil Madrasa of both sexes were accorded a reception, organised by Bakarail students organisation, cooperated by Dibar union parishad on Bakarail high school premises on August 4 in a colourful ceremony, under Patnitola upazila in the district, presided over by headmaster Based Ali of Bakarail High School, attended by former principal Moyez Uddin Ahmed of Nazipur government college.
Four students of GPA-5 and 35 (thirty-five) meritorious students of both sexes were given crests and prizes. Later, students of both sexes of Chanpur mission school staged a musical soiree.
Registration of 81 rice mills cancelled
The registration of total 81 rice mille had been cancelled in Naogaon district recently.
The District Food Controller sources reported the cancelled registrations rice mills are Naogaon sadar-upazila-15, Raninagar upazila-7, Atrai Upazila-12, Mohadevpur upazila-18, Badalgachi upazila-3, Patnitola upazila-5, Manda upazila-11. The reasons of the said cancellations are for not making agreement for supply of Aman rice and paddy to government food godowns and also failure of supplying rice and paddy for the target required.
Dacoity committed
A daring dacoity was committed at dead of night on August 5, at the house of Joytish Chandra Roy, retired school teacher, at Chakmoni village in Raninagar upazila in the district.
A gang of 20/25 entered the house and looted 16 vari gold, cash valued about 3 lakh 26 thousand Taka. OC Tofazzel Hossain rushed to the spot. A case was registered with the thana in this connection.
Govt urged for dev of Atrai health complex
Atrai upazila health complex is running with 20 beds in Naogoan district. The poor villagers of Halkalupra, Kalikapur, Bisha, Monihari union parishads are problem for better treatment towards it, as the distance is far away from the said places.
Ashanganj union health and family planning centre is running with one health assistant, and facing problem for lack of doors and windoors as these were looted. Locals urge the government and higher authorities concerned to establish another health complex on it with twenty beds and graduate medical doctor with others for better treatment.
Phensidyl recovered
Police recovered 26 bottles of phensidyl and arrested one person at Adhaipur in Badulgachi upazila in the district on August 5. The arrested person was identified as Abu Sayeed (26), son of Jabed Ali of Malgram village in Bogra district.
Obituary
Begum Nesa Bewa (94), mother of local journalist Md Nabir uddin, died of old age complications at her residence at Noorpur village under Sadar district upazila on August 8. She was buried at her family graveyard.
Naogaon zilla nursery owners assoc formed
The election of Naogoan zilla nursery owners Association was held recently.
Md. Akhter Hossain, Mustaq Ahmed, Dipak Kumar and Md Azmir Ali were elected as president, vice-president, general secretary and treasurer respectively.
Body recovered
One unknown dead body of a man, aged 30, was recovered hanging from a tree at Jothereeram village in Dhamorhat upazila on August 6.
On getting information by the public, the police recovered the dead boy and sent it for post-mortem. A UD case was registered with the thana.
One killed in thunderbolt
One person was killed and another injured seriously by thunderbolt in the morning at Durgapur village in Dhamoirhat upazila in the district recently.
The dead was identified as Paresh Pahan (16), son of Sudhir Pahan and injured Razy, son of Ibrahim.

Inter-dist dacoit gang held in Comilla
COMILLA, Aug 26: Police arrested nine members of inter-district dacoit gang from Paranpur school in Monohorganj upazila Friday early morning. Police said a gang of 15/20 robbers looted valuables from various houses of Eosia, Baupur and Bhanghar villages Thursday night. When the robbers entered into nearby Paranpur school for changing dress a patrol team of police went there and arrested nine of them. Police also recovered some looted valuables. The arrested dacoits are - Salahuddin, Md Hasan, Rezaul Karim, Siraj, Jahangir, Mahfuz, Shohag, Siraj and Mintoo, reports UNB.
Trader stabbed to death in Khulna
KHULNA, Aug 26: A trader was stabbed to death by some terrorists in Amtola area of the city Thursday night. The dead was identified as Gobinda Saha, 30, son of Nikhil Saha of city's Kalibari area. Police said when Gobinda was returning home from his biscuit factory some terrorists swooped on him and stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him seriously injured. Local people rushed him to a nearby clinic where the attending doctors declared him dead. The reason behind the killing could not be known immediately. A case was filed, reports UNB.
9 arrested for trying to pilfer oil in B'baria
BRAHMANBARIA, Aug 26: Nine persons were arrested for attempting to steal condensate oil from the pipeline of the national grid at a beel at Chandura in Sadar upazila on Tuesday. Police said security guards with the help of villagers caught them when they went to the beel by a boat with different tools for pilfering oil. Seven of the arrested were identified as Mamun, Khairul Islam, Delwar Hossain, Jasimuddin, Mizan, Kausar and boatman Ershad, reports UNB.
Cases filed against go vehicles in Faridpur
FARIDPUR, Aug 26: Officials of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) filed cases against 40 vehicles in the district on various charges in last three days till Thursday. Sources said BRTA, as per the government decision, started the drive from Gangabdhi on Dhaka-Khulna highway in cooperation with joint forces and police. The cases have been filed against the vehicles for lack of fitness certificate and for running on the road with high speed, reports UNB.
Indian cloths worth Tk 14 lakh seized in Benapole
BENAPOLE, Aug 26: BDR members seized Indian cloths worth 14 lakh at Benapole Bazaar Thursday. BDR sources said some smugglers were taking the Indian sari and three-piece sets to Jessore. Sensing BDR presence at Benapole Bazaar the smugglers fled away abandoning the cloths. The seized cloths were deposited to local customs house. A case was filed, reports UNB.
Two day-labourers electrocuted in Munshiganj
MUNSHIGANJ, Aug 26: Two day-labourers were electrocuted at Lotufdi Goyatala village in Sirajdikhan upazila on Thursday afternoon. Local people said Nazrul, 25, and Suman, 22, hailed from Barguna district came in contact with a live electric wire when they were passing a canal by a sand-laden trawler. Police on information recovered the bodies, reports UNB.
One beaten to death in Dinajpur
DINAJPUR, Aug 26: A man was beaten to death at Ramnagar village in Sadar upazila Wednesday night. The dead was identified as Mokarram Hossain Tipu, 40, of Shankerpur village in the upazila. Police said some terrorists called Tipu out of his house Wednesday at dead of night, hanged him from a tree and beat him to death. They later fled away leaving the body at nearby Ramnagar village. On information police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed. The motive behind the killing could not be known, reports UNB.
