Prof Emeritus Dr Sayed Zahir Haider of the Chemistry Department, Dhaka University (DU) died at a city hospital early yesterday. He was 82.

Prof Sayed Zahir left behind his wife, five sons, one daughter, a host of students and admirers to mourn his death.

Namaz-e-janaza for the late DU teacher was held at the Chemistry Department premises of Curzon Hall at about 11am. Later he was buried at his family graveyard in Mirpur.

Qulkhwani for late Prof Sayed Zahir Haider will be held at his Lalmatia residence after magrib prayers on August 25.

DU vice-chancellor Prof SMA Faiz, Pro-VC Prof AFM Yusuf Haider and Science Faculty Dean prof Tajmeri SA Islam expressed their deep shock at the death of Prof Zahir.

They prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
