Trawlers looted

BARGUNA, Aug 21: Pirates looted nine trawlers and also abducted nine fishermen from the Bay near Laldiar char here on Tuesday midnight. Fellow fishermen, who returned from the Bay, said that the bandits swooped on the nine trawlers when fishermen were fishing in the Bay and looted valuables, including fish, nets and fuel oil, worth Tk 5 lakh. Before leaving the place, they also kidnapped one fisherman from each trawler demanding Tk 6 lakh ransom, reports UNB.

Arms and ammunition recovered in Benapole

BENAPOLE (JESSORE), Aug 21: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members recovered some arms and ammunition from a house at Boro Achra village here on Wednesday. Acting on secret information, a RAB team raided the house of Israil Sarder of the village and recovered one pistol, one revolver and one round of bullet in abandoned condition. None was arrested in this connection. A case was filed, reports UNB.

Fertilizer seized

in Naogaon

NAOGAON, Aug 21: Police seized 1,327 sacks of fertilizer from a rice mill godown in Mahadevpur upazila and also arrested a man in this connection on Tuesday. Acting on a tip-off, Detective Branch Police and Mahadevpur thana police raided the godown of Monira Auto Auto Rice Mill in the evening and seized 498 sacks of DAP, 480 sacks of MOP, 247 sacks of PSP and 102 sacks of TSP fertilizer worth about Tk 50 lakh. Police also arrested manager of the rice mill Belal Hossain in this connection. Mill owner Abul Kalam Azad went into hiding, reports UNB.

Boy drowned in Sylhet

SYLHET, Aug 21: A minor boy drowned in a pond at Madarkhal village in Jokiganj upazila Tuesday. The dead was identified as Ashraf, 7, son of Faruq Ahmed of Lamar village in the upazila. Family sources said, Ashraf came to his aunt's house at Madarkhal village few days back and drowned in a pond in the morning. Later, local people recovered his floating body from the pond, reports UNB.

Septuagenarian killed in road mishap

BARISAL, Aus 21: A septuagenarian man was crushed under the wheels of a bus at Laxmipasa on Barisal-Patuakhali highway in Bakerganj upazila here Tuesday. The victim was identified as Abul Hawlader, 70. Witnesses said when the old man was crossing the road near Laxmipasa Bazaar the speedy bus of Mian Paribahon ran over him, reports UNB.
