Open Market Sale (OMS) of rice at Taka 28 a kilogram began in the port city yesterday to curb further jumping of the rice price during the upcoming Ramzan.

Huge crowd especially women from lower and middle-income families marked the first day of the programme.

Additional Commissioner of Chittagong Division Omar Faruq inaugurated the OMS program at city's Love Lane point. Under the government-run OMS programme one person will be able to buy maximum three kilograms of rice per day at a cost of taka 28 for per kilogram.

A total of 179 appointed dealers would carry out the OMS programme through 387 outlets that have already been set up at different city areas.
