The New Nation - Internet Edition

Old Dhaka - the downtown of Dhaka city - is changing everyday. Five years ago when I started my work the panorama of the landscape ascribed to this part of the city was completely different from what it is now. In the last five years many of the old neighbourhoods have seen changes that are nothing short of a complete metamorphosis. As one old estate after the other fell prey to the frenzy of demolition whole neighbourhoods and their localities were lost forever. They became components of nostalgia for people like me. This loss of neighbourhoods, materialistic physical transformation captivated my emotions at witnessing slices of life being lost forever. As a challenge to capture what was vanishing before my very eyes and to bear witness to the perishing glory I decided to photograph in color (medium format) details, objects and close ups without people. This has given a completely different perspective and dimension to the visualization of the old Dhaka I have seen closely.
