Foreign Adviser Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury said the people of Pakistan would determine their political destiny following the resignation of President Pervez Musharraf.

Asked to comment on the resignation of President General Musharraf in the face of impeachment process, the Foreign Adviser told the media:

"We believe that people of Pakistan should be in charge of their own political destiny, and as the process evolves, we wish them well."

The Pakistani President announced his resignation yesterday, ending a nearly nine-year tenure that opponents said was hampering the country's shaky return to democracy.
