Shops looted by dacoits in Natore



Natore, Aug 10 : Dacoits looted cash and valuables worth about Tk 15 lakh from six shops at Basudebpur Bazaar in Naldanga upazila early Sunday. Local people said the bandits numbering 30/40 swooped on the bazaar at about 1:30am. They tied up the two night guards of the bazaar and four guards of nearby Banglalink tower box. They then plundered cash and valuables from the six grocery, cloth and cosmetic shops. The dacoits fled the scene loading the goods in a truck, report UNB.



100 maunds carbide mixed mangoes seized in Pirojpur



Pirojpur, Aug 10 :Mobile court in a drive on Saturday seized 100 maunds of carbide mixed mangoes from four godowns at Hularhat in Sadar upazila and realized Tk 1.7 lakh in fine. During the drive, mobile court officials threw the 100 maunds carbide mixed mangoes worth TK 2.5 lakh into the river and also recovered 10 kgs of carbide from these godowns. Local people said these godown owners were illegally selling carbide mixed mangoes for a long time, report UNB.



Mother, child killed in road mishap



Kishoreganj, Aug 10 : A young mother and her minor child was killed in a road accident in South Mansantosh area of Karimganj upazila Sunday morning. Police and witnesses said the accident occurred on Kishoreganj-Chamrabandar road at about 9am as a Kishoreganj bound bus from Chamrabandar ran over Bilkis Begum, 25, and her 10 month-old boy Jidmi when they were crossing the road. Bilkis died on the spot while Jidmi succumbed to his injuries at the local health complex at about 11am, report UNB .



Heroin recovered in Dinajpur



Dinajpur, Aug 10 : BDR jawans recovered 2 kgs of heroin from a passenger train at Birampur rail station here early Sunday. Being tipped off, a team of Fulbari-40 rifle battalion raided a compartment of the Sayedpur-bound 'Simanta Express' train from Khulna at the station and recovered the heroin in an abandoned condition. However, they could not arrest any one in this connection, report UNB.



World Indigenous Day observed in Rajshahi



Rajshahi, Aug 10 : The International Day of the World's Indigenous People was observed here Saturday with much enthusiasm. Different programmes including discussion, cultural function and rally, organised by indigenous people's organizations, NGOs and government were held. A discussion meeting was held at Zila Parishad Auditorium with Indigenous People's Forum Rajshahi district unit president Bimal Chandra Rajowar in the chair. The chief adviser of the forum and Workers Party Politburo Member Fazle Hossain Badsha attended the discussion as chief guest. The speakers urged the government to fulfill the 9-point demand of the indigenous people, including their state recognition, report UNB.



Housewife killed in Jhalakati



Jhalakati, Aug 10 : Body of a housewife was recovered from her house at Talgasia village in Kathalia upazila Friday. The dead was identified as Anguri Begum, second wife of Shajahan Mollah. Police said Anguri was strangulated to death sometime on Wednesday night. She was living in the house alone as her husband was staying with his first wife and children in another place. On information, police recovered the body and Anguri's son Sumon Mollah filed a case against his father Shahjahan Mollah, step mother Sheuli and uncle Hakim Mollah. Police arrested Shahjahan and his cousin Hakim for in this connection, report UNB.
